Why isn't Pete Rose in the hall of fame?

Pete Rose has 4,256 hits and he's not in the hall of fame. Sure he gambled on baseball but look at Ty Cobb who sharpened his spikes so he would stab the baseman when he slid into 2nd or 3rd base. Mickey Mantle was out all night drinking and cheating on his wife. Judging by these great players the Hall of Fame isn't a character hall of fame.

Pete is the all-time major league leader in hits (4256), games played (3562), and at bats (14,053). He won three World Series rings, three batting titles, one Most Valuable Player Award, two Gold Gloves, the Rookie of the Year Award, and made 17 All-Star appearances.

No one has the chance at beating some of Rose's records. There is no doubt in my mind that he deserves in the hall of fame. Anyone with this colorful of a career deserves to be in there. If he isn't allowed in the hall of fame maybe they should take Mantle, Cobb, etc out.

Screw the gambling issue its Pete effin' Rose. The only man worth the title of Charlie Hustle.

Why isn't Pete Rose in the hall of fame?
Pete Rose is the best. I am a big fan of his and always will be. He was a great ball player. He should be in the Hall of Fame. He could have done worse. There are other ball players I think should be taken out because of what they did.
Reply:You asked WHY he's not in the HOF.....but all you really wanted was to minimize Rose's misdeeds....

It's no wonder our country has problems, we have no character. As long as they can dunk, hit home runs and score TDs, you think they should be allowed to do as they please, even if it's wrong. Report It

Reply:WRONG ANSWER!!!

TWO THUMBS DOWN!!! Report It

Reply:OK people listen now its common sense Pete rose is one of the greatest players to ever live i don't see a problem so he bet on games he didn't bet on his own team but its OK for Orlando cepeda to smuggle weed and he is still in the hall of fame give me a break vote rose in enough is enough Report It

Reply:Simply put he broke the rules of baseball. He killed the spirit of the game and the MLB has banned him for life. Lifting the ban is going soft in the public eye. They'l loose respect if they contradict themselves. Not going to happen. While his numbers are incredible he still broke the rules. (cough Bonds cough)
Reply:So what's your question??? He broke the rules.
Reply:pete rose is banned from baseball for life.

plain and simple.

that also means his "so called" records are also meaningless.

he even signed a statement agreeing to that ban, there fore admitting his guilt.

Seriously, pete rose needs to keep his mouth closed.

He shouldn't even be allowed in the HOF, not even as a paying customer.
Reply:dude, he gambled and threw games!! that's not what baseball is about! they said they'll let him into the hall of fame if he confesses, but he doesn't wanna... his loss!
Reply:he is banned for life and baseball doesn't want to unban him.
Reply:Exactally. He didnt effect the outcome of games like Barry Bonds is doing. I think it will be a disgrace for baseball to let Bonds in and not Rose.

AND HE DIDNT THROW GAMES, HE BET ON GAMES OTHER THAN THE ONES OF THE TEAM HE WAS MANAGING!
Reply:I tend to agree with you about the Hall of fame issue. Rose earned a spot in the Hall, I also feel the lifetime ban against him from returning to baseball is very justified. The ban from the Hall is probably more punishment though. Rose is tortured by his exclusion from the Hall.

As for the steroid babies (McGwire, Sosa, McGriff, Bonds and Palmiero) I feel they DO deserve to be banned from the hall and I also think their records should be stricken from the books. Rose as far as I know never used performance enhancing substances that were banned. These guys did. That cheapens their stats, their records and basball in general.
Reply:I must agree with you i think the hall of fame is doing a horrible job on this one, i wonder what they will do once barry gets there with the steroid issue, imagine all the money Cooperstown if pete rose would be inducted into the hall of fame by just being there, i think a lot of people would love to meet him, He deserves to be in the hall of fame but hopefully the veteran's committe will be smarter and vote Pete Rose into the hall of fame.
Reply:As much as I like Rose, there's no defending his conduct. He knew what he was doing was wrong and he knew the potential consequences in doing it.

You can't really compare Ty Cobb. Everyone admits Cobb was a horrible human being and that Mickey Mantle was no saint, but they didn't put the game into question by appearing to ever giving less than their best effort. With Rose, there's a question.

Finally, I don't really care if it's Pete effin' Rose or anyone else. We can't employ two sets of rules, one for superstars and one for the rest. Otherwise none of them make any difference.

Plain and simple, the reason Rose, nor any of the "Black Sox" aren't in the HOF is because their actions put the veracity of the game into question. And if you can't believe the game is being won or lost fair %26amp; square, it's no longer a game...
Reply:As part of a plea bargen with the Ohio Attorney General he is not suposed to have any contact with baseball. The Hall of Fame is part of basebal. Why Attorney General Montgomery has not remanded him to prison for speeking at training camp and takeing part in reunions is beyound me.
Reply:Because he got kicked out of baseball it elimenated his chances to go to the Hall of Fame
Reply:betting on games they rejected him
