Do you know anything about rose bushes?

i live north florida and i do not test my dirt. i have several rose bushes growing in a container. they are really green with a little rid on the stems and leaves what does that mean? i was told that it meant a flower will be coimng soon but i do not see a bud. i dugg up these rose bushes after they were exposed to hard freeze throughout the winter. how long will it take it to bloom some flowers. the bush is about 4 feet tall and its full of leaves more than before. how bud before it start having buds ecposed i am so eager to learn what color it is. i didnt purchase this plant the people who lived before left their plants and some i dont have the names for. how do you know if your rose bush is healthy or not. mine has no discolor of green ands solid green. green as a green bean!!! oh i forgot to mention the rose bush is in good soil some kind of manure and top soil and compost and exposed to lots of sun and gets lots water and treatments i just want the roses to bloom roses.

Do you know anything about rose bushes?
It may not be grand this year, but it might.

Cut the rose bush back to the "fifth leaf"~cooler months are better~yet I just did some cutting on mine and I live in Texas~They are bloomin" like crazy~

Start at the top of the plant. Look at the leaf groups until you find one with five leaves. Cut it there. Your roses will bloom abundantly!!! I promise~Do this every year.

Hope everything comes up roses for you~!~
Reply:Sounds like they are doing fine. When was the last time you cut them back? I have close to 70 bushes and I cut them all back every winter. (February) Try cutting one foot back, cut just above the bud at a angle.
Reply:I live in MI and never remove my roses from the ground, it freezes and gets snowy every winter and now they are out of control! They are planted on the one side of our shed, they are on the south west side, our intentions are to have this shed covered in roses and the near by arbor, we have to tie them up to the shed and inter twine then into the arbor - it is working and by next year the shed will be covered, one side is already. I can not count the roses in bloom -way too many!

All plants and trees need bugs to live and a little harsh weather won't hurt them a bit.

Look on the leaves to see if there are any holes in them - if not you have a healthy bush. I use Rose bug and fertilizer all in one they are little pellets. To keep the leaf eaters off them and I never use what the direction say always less!!! And it seems to work just as well.

Go on-line and in the image search, type in rose bush, seek out what type of leaves are on this bush, also you could look through flower and graden books or magizines till' you find your bush.

But first things first! I'd put it back out side where it belongs it should not die. They will come back every year!

There are so many different kinds of roses it may be hard to tell what kind you have till it does bloom. I have all kinds but the ones that are out of control and growing over the shed are wild climbing rose bushes and I haven't been able to find these kinds on-line yet!!! They are beautiful and have the most wonderful smell ever! Good luck!

P.S. Do not cut them back till' you know what you have and only cut in the fall! You could also take a leaf into your local flower shop they'll probably know what it is.
