Rose bushes?

Rose bushes?????????

why do rose bushes turn black and the leaves fall off? they are in the sun and they get watered with the sprinklers? so why are they turning black and why are the leaves falling off???????????

oh yeah and by the way if it helps they get sun all day and do not get watered until like 7:00 or 8:00 pm.

Rose bushes?
That's your problem. You are watering your plants too late. Your bushes have what is called "Black Spot", which is a fungal disease that most roses get. Very aggravating disease that is hard to get rid of once the bush gets it. First thing you need to do is change your watering time to mornings, any moisture left on the leaves overnight will only breed more spots. Second, pick off any leaves you see starting to turn immediately, gather all the dead leaves that have fallen on the ground, get them completely away from the bushes. If the dead leaves are allowed to stay around the bush you will never get rid of this. If getting rid of the leaves and changing your watering habits don't help, you will have to get a fungicide spray specifically for black spot, spray this on the tops and bottoms of leaves.

One other tip, make sure you water at the base of the plant, do not spray the entire bush when watering. An easy way of doing this is to get a soaker hose for your roses instead of your sprinkler. Another thing, roses planted too close together, or bushes that haven't been trimmed properly will stay moist and black spot will thrive.
Reply:roses are very temperamental, they are also very very susceptible to insects and blights. since i can not see the leaves and identify the issue exactly, you can take a leaf to a reputable nursery for assistance.

Most likely you need to do 2 things...an insecticide and some fertilizer. Make sure you weed the area and remove grass from around the base of the plant before you treat the bushes.

Clip off any and all deadened branches. Pruning is very important to the health of a rose bush.
Reply:I read something that if you water plants in the evening the water does not evaporate off the leaves and that can cause problems...since it just sits there all night...
