Which rose should I buy?

Could you recommend me a rose in the following categories:

1 Hybrid tea rose

2 floribunda

3 climbing rose

4 shrub rose

My criteria for my ideal rose are:

Good shape --- open to interpretation

Elegant colours --- open to interpretation

Great fragrance

Manageable size

Good disease resistance

Not too many thorns

Many thanks!

for fragrance and old-fashioned form you cannot do any better than to go with David Austin's roses. They are just delightful in so many ways.

Hybrid teas can be picky but the ones I love the most are

Peace

Just Joey

Fragrant Cloud

For climbing roses I love Graham Thomas which is a lovely yellow continually blooming. A lot of the climbers bloom once and that is it for the season. So be wary of that

good luck

but be ready to spend too much time (enjoyable but addictive)

Actually, Knock Out Roses are performing best in coastal Zone 7B (hot and humid) in the US, so disease resistance is key and the Knock Out and Carpet roses do the best. Hybrid Teas - I would select a Heirloom variety, but they are all really high care in most environments.

Otherwise, people choose them for color and scent, so I would contact your local Rose Society and visit some nurseries for local recommendations - the Rose Society will answer more honestly about care requirements, since they do not sell the solutions to rose problems. ;)

is a list of recommendations from the American Rose Society.

However, you will want to interpret it with an idea of what grows well where you are. For instance, I'm now near Portland, OR... very few roses won't survive our winter. I used to be from the northern midwest, where if you wanted hardy roses, you bought the Canadian Explorer series, Griff Buck's cultivars, or the Brownell Subzeros. Or some of the old species roses that just don't give up.

Assuming you're in the US, you might want to poke around on the ARS website, especially looking for groups in your area. There are also regional rose test gardens that you can visit. Your local extension service will most likely also have lists of roses that do well in your area.
Reply:Im not very good with roses, but you should go to David Austin Roses. I assume they have a website, If not they are in Albrighton Shropshire. They are the best rose people I know. I have been to their gardens and they are beautiful, well worth a visit if you are in the area. Try them they are very helpful.
