Rose of Sharon not flowering?

I've got 4 Rose of Sharon bushes that were planted in the fall of 2006. They all leafed out last year but did not flower. They are all leafing this year as well, but no signs of any flower buds. I have roses in the general vicinity and they are growing and blooming just fine. Any ideas on why my Rose of Sharons show no signs of flowering (Yes, I *am* aware that roses are not related to Rose of Sharon!)? I should probably add that I'm in Zone 6, KY/TN area. The plants get good afternoon sunlight

Rose of Sharon not flowering?
you won't see buds for a couple months yet.... RoS don't bloom till the hottest time of summer........
Reply:Mine aren't in bloom yet, either. They are only just now beginning to bud, and I'm in the Southeast, zone 7, so I'm a little warmer than you. Be patient, they'll come around!
Reply:Rose of Sharon blooms near the end of the summer. They are not spring bloomers.

Derrick Rose... Future Star?

No disrespect to Derrick Rose, but I don't see how he is so good. He only averages 14 Points (OJ Mayo averages 20) 4 Rebounds (OJ Mayo averages 5). Also, Derrick Rose had Chris Douglas Roberts, Robert Dozier, and Glenn Dorsey on his team to help him reach the National Championship. How can the 2008 NBA Mock Draft compare Derrick Rose to Michael Beasley (26 PPG, 12 Rebounds)?

I love Derrick Rose, but isn't he just A BIT overrated?

Derrick Rose... Future Star?
First of all, Stats mean nothing. It's all bout how u play and ur personality. Rose had probaly one of the best personalities for getting all this hype/ He handles it well and knows wat to do on the court. When i watch him play he has one of the highest IQ's for a PG in this draft. OJ mayo has a hot temper and look at his money scandal now. Not good for image. Rose has a great physical game and is quick and great ball handler with both hands. So to end this off. U R CRAZY IF U THINK HE IS OVERRATED AT ALLL!!!
Reply:Basketball drafting is about potential, not college stats. Mayo averaged as many turnovers as he did assists, and he is supposed to be a point/swing man. Mayo is still going to go high in the draft though, because his game is more suited to the pros, which is a played in a different style than college. Rose also played in a pretty loose system under Calipari (Dribble-Drive). With a more structured offense people think he will unlock his potential and be great.
Reply:What up Sohaib A,

Statistically Derrick Rose wasn't all that impressive. But he really carried Memphis against some very top flight teams in the NCAA(s) and he'd be a national champion right now if him or CDR could have sunk a free throw.

OJ's averages are higher mainly because he is the focal point of USC's offense where-as Memphis was a bit more balanced.

i think more than anything we've seen in the past several years that you can build a team around a point guard in the NBA- look at Utah and New Orleans, as well as other teams like Portland with Brandon Roy. Actually Williams College stats were not that great and so he got bypassed and how many teams are kicking themselves for not drafting him earlier.

Beasley definitely is a bit more NBA ready in that he has the NBA size... and it's going to come down to the team who has the #1 pick.

A case can be made for Rose being the best player in this year's draft- and he is by far the best point guard in this year's draft. Has to definitely work on his outside shot- but he's pretty fierce taking it to the hole.

Reply:I agree with the previous comment about Chris Paul and Derron Williams. There's no doubt that they REALLY broke out of their molds somewhat unpredictably. I think Derrick Rose definitely has potential, but like all potential first draft picks, the pressure is great and we might not see him develop into a superstar until latter years.
Reply:WELL I'M A BIG FAN OF ROSE AND BEASLEY, I DO THINK ROSE IS A LITTLE OVERRATED BUT HE IS STILL REALLY GOOD, I THINK BEASLEY SHOULD BE NUMBER 1 DRAFT PICK, MAYO NUMBER 2, AND ROSE NUMBER 3 DRAFT PICK,I DONT THINK ROSE DESERVES TO GET DRAFTED BEFORE BEASLEY, MAYO, I DO BELIEVE THAT IF ROSE GET DRAFTED TO A TEAM THAT HAD A REALLY BAD SEASON, A SORRY SORRY TEAM THAT HE WILL DEFIANTLY BE A FUTURE STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!ALL 3 OF THEM WILL
Reply:Smart money says Derrick Rose is more of a solid citizen than Michael Beasley, the only player in the draft rated ahead of him. If you don't think character counts in NBA scouting evaluations, guess again.
Reply:He has potential to be very great! His physical attributes are like a deron Williams and then his decision making and skills are like Chris Paul, hes like a mix between them. When Chris Paul and Deron Williams came out, did anyone think they would be as good as they are now? Prbably not
Reply:I would say

Michael Beasley is the best,

OJ Mayo is second best

Derek Rose is third best
Reply:I was going to give you a great answer, but you don't resolve your questions so screw off.
Reply:who the hell is derrick rose? Never heard of him

Blue rose poem,?

i asked my lover

where is my blue rose

he quietly says

where ever i go

i stare in curiosity

as he gazes into mine

he calls me his baby

i call him my light

as we walk to the doors

of his beauiful life

yet he never tells me

where he keeps his rose

and i laugh it off

even his white lies

make my heart bloom

one day cancer grows

on his beautiful heart

his life go's away

and so does mine too

his funeral came

and my broken heart flew

when i stared at his grave

the blue roses bloomed

i looked at my memories

that sprouted in the flowers

he never said a lie

for i was his blue rose

that followed him

his blue rose baby

Blue rose poem,?
Hello there... I like your poem. I'm a poet my self. I like the way you project your feelings trough it. I know it's not easy, Keep writing , your good. I'm sorry about your lost. It's almost ironic that something beautiful come from a painful experience. That's what make this art so incredible. Good luck to you. Best wishes from my heart ♥
Reply:nice poem... i was just listening to an italian song called 'una rosa blue' :-) yours is nice too!
Reply:Its a beautiful yet sad poem...I hope this didnt happen to you.. but definitely, it is very well done! I liked it.
Reply:Blue Rose,

I love your poem. the only thing I have a small problem with is the meter. I think it needs to flow smoother. the poem itself is fine. I reallly enjoyed it and you do have talent. Keep writing and I'll keep watching for your poems.
Reply:Umm... I would call this more of a story than a poem? And what is your question?
Reply:its soft n sweet .......makes me feel like i'm lying in my lovers arms while they are gone, like a memory

Blue rose....?

Is it possible to change the colour of a rose?

I want to get a blue rose...and my science teacher tells me that roses are indicators. So i was thinking about getting a white rose and putting the rose in an basic solution to change it's colour.....

Or are there any blue roses..if so what are they called?

Blue rose....?
No, you can't make a rose blue the way you can make a hydrangea. However, there are new species of rose not yet available to the public that are very close to blue or blueish.

Here is a site you might be interested in.

These roses are about as blue as they get.
Reply:I've never heard of roses functioning as pH indicators; only hydrangeas. If you want a blue rose, you might consider trying this: put the white rose in water that has a few drops of blue vegetable dye in it. I've seen carnations take up the color in water this way; I don't know if roses will do it, but it's worth a shot :-)

I don't know of any naturally occurring blue roses; the last I heard, that, and a black rose, are sort of the Holy Grail of the rose world, but you can certainly check with the American Rose Society to find out.
Reply:There are blue rose cultivars, but they can sometimes be difficult to grow. I would Google the name, or go to a quality supplier such as antiqueroseemporium.com to see what they have. They are a great source.
Reply:I dont think you can change colour of rose, Hydrangeas you can by altering ph of soil

Roses are an indicator plant, here in NZ they are planted at ends of grape vines to show up pests before they infest the grapes

There are a number of roses called blue , but are not a true blue

Try a Search for "Blue Rose" or these sites

Reply:There is a hybrid tea rose name 'Blue Moon'

it is not a true blue and not one of my favourites.

Roses do not change colour to response to the pH levels of the soil they are grown in.

You could put a white bloom in water with blue food dye and see what that does to the petal colour. Might be fun to try.
Reply:Roses do not change colour in or out of soil. They have a woody stem, not a hollow one like a carnation.

There are no true blue roses at all.

A rose plant is growing out of the stem of a dead rose. How do I plant and take care of this new plant?

I was given a rose two weeks ago and I put it in a vase with water. I kept it in the window next to my bed. The rose died after a few days as expected but i left it in the window anyways for a little longer. And now a little green plant has sprouted out of the middle of the stem of the dead rose. I would to plant this new plant but I have no idea how to go about it.

A rose plant is growing out of the stem of a dead rose. How do I plant and take care of this new plant?
Evidently the stem is not dead all the way though. I would rememove the entire thing and plant it deeper in new poting soil, keeping it in the sunlight and moisture. cut off dead parts above the rose.
Reply:Put the cutting in some perlite and water. Water alone will not allow it to develop a strong root it needs the O2 that the perlite will provide. After you have a good root system put it in potting soil and THEN add the Miracle Grow.
Reply:Cool, I would let it grow a little longer then plant it in a pot of black dirt for roses with starter Miracle Grow.
Reply:Go to your local nursery and get a small jar of rooting hormone (Rootone is a well-known variety, but I'm sure there are plenty of others). Cut the dead blossom off, as well as most of the stem ABOVE the new growth to lessen the possibility of disease and infection. Next, prepare a pot with good-quality moistened potting soil (DO NOT use soil from outdoors); I prefer plastic pots so that the pot doesn't absorb moisture from the potting soil. Clip a small piece off the stem at the bottom, so that fresh tissue is exposed, and dip it into the rooting powder. Then just stick the stem into the soil, firm the soil around it, and put it back where it was already growing (since you know it "likes" that spot well enough to send up new growth!). Keep the soil moist, but not wet, and by spring you will very likely have a new little rose bush all ready to plant outdoors. Good luck!
Reply:you will have to keep it wet and hope that it sprouts roots fron the woody piece . just be patient and it might work out . usually though the green will die off , cloning roses is kinda tricky . but i do wish you god luck !

remember you want roots to form before you try to plant .

pete
Reply:I would cut off the dead parts and put rooting hormone on the end of the little plant and put it in a small pot with potting mix and water it. Put it in a place with lots of light and try to keep it going till next spring when you can transplant it outside. Very unusual!
Reply:I got your email but i cant email you back because yours isnt confirmed.

Anyway, thats the coolest thing ive ever seen, i would trim the extra stem off and stick it in some mirical grow water and see if it will sprout roots.

THats great!

White Rose Society?
The group initially consisted of five students, all in their early twenties at Munich University.

The origins of the name are not clear but the historian Zeller wrote that the colour (white) represented pureness.

Between June 1942 and February 1943, they prepared and distributed six different leaflets (known as the leaves of the white rose) in which they called for an end to Nazi oppression and tyranny through active opposition of the German people.

Hans Scholl and his sister Sophie led the rest of the group, including Christoph Probst, Alexander Schmorell and Willi Graf. They were joined by a professor, Kurt Huber, who drafted the final two leaflets. All six members of this group were arrested, tried, convicted and executed by beheading. A seventh leaflet was found in possession of the students at the time of their arrest by the Gestapo.
