For a girl Rose Juliet, Rose Florence, or Rose Celine?

Rose is a definite but not sure about middle. I want a name along the lines of the ones I already have. I don't want Peyton, Casey, Caidence, etc. Pretty, classic, not too common. With a good, strong meaning to go along with Rose. Thanx!

For a girl Rose Juliet, Rose Florence, or Rose Celine?
I like Rose Juliet. Rose Florence doesn't flow well and Rose Celine will turn out sounding like Rosaline (rhyming with 'pin'),

Rose Gabrielle/a

Rose Natalia

Rose Anastasia

Rose Juliana

Rose Amelia

Rose Brianna

Rose Clara

Rose Danielle

Rose Emmeline

Rose Jocelyn

Rose Irina

Rose Victoria

My favourites are Rose Gabrielle/a and Rose Natalia. I would steer clear of middle names starting with the letter S or the S sound, because it would get blended into one name with the already short-enough Rose. Hope I helped!
Reply:I don't really care for any of those as middle names for Rose. I can tolerate Rose Juliet, but Juliet Rose, in my opinion, sounds better. With Rose first the flow sounds off. It seems you really want her first name to be Rose though, and that's fine because it's an absolutely beautiful name. Of your three picks I like Rose Juliet most. The only suggestion coming to mind right now is Rose Airanna. I think it sounds really lovely, and the flow is nicer.
Reply:I agree with Capitula.. Rose as first name makes nice names sound off.. the flow is nicer if you put Rose in the middle sounds a lot better to the ear.. try it out to say the names and you will see what I mean. a shorter name should be the middle name and a longer name the first that sounds better and a name ending in ''A'' should come before one ending in ''E' such as Rose.. then it just sounds a lot more melodious xx

Rose is a nice name but gets common so I would call her Rossanna or Rosabella instead and Rose for short...

Rosanna Celina .. Rose is much better as a middle name if you add some zest to it and modernize this nice old fashioned name you can come up with a lot more wonderful middle names...xx

Rose is a classic but should be a middle name unless you add some spice to it.. such as saying Rosanna or Rosella , Rosalynne instead of just Rose..

for Rose as a middle name there a lots of nice names

Karissa Rose

Gabriella Rose

Arianna Rose

Julianna Rose

Juliet Rose

Felicia Rose

Alicia Rose

Isabella Rose (Izzy)

Daniella Rose

Diana Rose

Alexia Rose

Eleanna Rose

Catherine Rose Cathy for short or Katherine (katie for short)

Evaline Rose (Evie)

Maxine Rose (Maxie)

Charlotte Rose

Julietta Rose

Marietta Rose (Rietta for short or Marie)

Callianna Rose (Calli)

Yasmine Rose or Jessamine Rose

Lillia Rose or Lilianna Rose (Lily for short)

Reply:if your dead set on rose for a first name thats fine, but why not spin them around.....Celine rose, or juliet rose, i just think first names and middle names floe together easier if the middle name isnt longer the first, it may overpower the first name and sound weird.

and i dont know why other people are throwing in other names that you didnt even ask about, obviously you like that names you mentioned for a reason and thats why you didnt ask for them to come up with other ones.

Derrick Rose or Kirk Hinrich???

Who's better out of the two. I know you really can't compare college and nba, but I think rose would be a bigger upgrade. Kirk can't rebound for sh*t. I know kirk is a better shooter, but rose is a solid one. ROSE IS WAY BETTER. Tell me what you think.

Derrick Rose or Kirk Hinrich???
Rose is definitely the better player with a much better upside, I dont see Hinrich getting much better than he already is. Hinrich is a decent point guard but Rose has the potential to be great. Better leader, and definitely willing to take over a game at the end as we saw in the NCAA tournament. But I think the Bulls will take Beasley because they already have enough guards and really need an inside presence.
Reply:Rose definitely has the upside because he's young, mobile, and most all a bona fide scorer. However, Hinrich is your established prototypical point guard. With Hinrich, you know what you're getting: 15 points, 7 dimes, 3 %26amp; half boards, and a steal per game almost. I know Hinrich's been stuggling and has had somehwat of a slump of late, but if the Bulls were to pick Beasley #1. Then Hinrich's numbers would jump. Oh and last time I checked, point guards don't get that many rebounds.
Reply:Rose for sure. If the Bulls do take Rose though, I don't think Hinrich is the one out the door, I think it's Gordon. The Bulls just recently resigned Hinrich to another deal and when they tried to resign Gordon he refused. They obviously don't want to lose Gordon to FA so they'll trade him and try and get something in return.
Reply:The only way Chicago will do this is if they can work out a trade for Hinrich and get equal compensation in return for Kirk. Otherwise I doubt they'll draft another point guard.
Reply:Derrick Rose. Stronger and quicker. Rose isn't as a good a shooter, but can more others around him better.
Reply:Rose. He's a better all-around player and leader than Hinrich. Kirk can provide Rose competent backup, though
Reply:rose very soon

I rose from the Dead myself.?

What's this 'Jesus rose from the dead' schtick? Every single human being who ever lived and died has risen from the dead, in the sense that their soul departed the body and returned to the source, ascending through the etheric, astral and spiritual sheaths to be reincarnated if they still hadn't learnt the real spiritual lessons they needed to learn and decided not to abandon the false ego. Rising from the dead is something that goes on every second of the day all over the world! Isn't it just like the Pauline Christians to make a big deal of it? Like they also invented Love, did you know that? Yes, it's theirs. And the world. They created the world, too, or at least they have rights to the story of its making! (actually they should pay royalties to the Sumerians who wrote that little children's story, too). Why haven't they started charging for the air we breathe - StPeter's needs a new spire! I mean - they used to sell tickets out of hell, didn't they? Well, didn't they?

I rose from the Dead myself.?
well will you raise your own body or just your soul? Jesus rose the whole body.
Reply:Man, you have serious anger issues. Maybe the next time you can be reincarnated as a rock!
Reply:You make a lot of sense. I would give you wild sex for this.
Reply:I think you are right. See, the whole "worship Jesus" thing came long after Jesus walked the earth. It is the same as Buddha that is worshipped by some even though he made it clear no one should worship him, same thing with Jesus. Jesus said not to worship him but only god. Then some romans turned it all into a "make cash quick a scheme" from there it all went downward.
Reply:Here is my question: WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM!!?? I dont feel like reading the whole thing but you didnt exist until you were concieved! DUH!!! God made you and that is it you were never in another body!
Reply:Jesus came back to life. His Spirit came back into His body...and His body became glorified.

All you are trying to do is argue about something that you know nothing about.
Reply:that is a matter of belief. christians essentially believe that thats not true. your soul didnt exist. then it did. then you were born. viola'....ya its bullshit lol god bless the buddhists.
Reply:WOW how can you prove all that spiritual stuff?
Reply:Christ never died, he was actually an inflatable doll that was moved from city to city

Reply:you sound really angry about "religion". All I can say is that a belief in Christ cannot be based on people you know. Protestants left the Catholic church because of the incumberances or "tickets out of hell".

A Rose by any other name would still smell as sweet as a Rose?

OK this old saying get to me would a rose smell as sweet if they were called Smelly Socks / shite in a bucket / dirty dog or puke would you really want to know what it smelt like

(so how would you know it smells as sweet as a rose)

A Rose by any other name would still smell as sweet as a Rose?
From Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, 1594: "...a rose by any other name would smell as sweet..."

It means that what matters is what something is, not what it is called. Maybe it will be clearer in context, if you can get through the flowery (no pun intended) language--

JULIET:

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;

Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.

What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,

Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part

Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!

What's in a name? that which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet;

So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,

Retain that dear perfection which he owes

Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,

And for that name which is no part of thee

Take all myself.

Of course, this observation does not take into account how preconceived ideas can alter someone's perception of reality. A rose, if called Festering Monkey Pus, would objectively smell as sweet. However, the person taking a whiff is expecting something nasty, and would be inclined to think, "Well, it's not as bad as I was expecting, but I don't know if I really like it."
Reply:WHAT!!?
Reply:i get what your saying

if a new rose came out and in stead of it been referred to as a purple rose it was called Rotten Fish Heads

would i want to smell it

(NO)

so how would i know it smelt like a rose

Floyd Rose on a Gibson Explorer?

I was at Guitar Center, and I saw the Dean from Hell and the Gibson Explorer. As you can see, the Dean had a Floyd Rose, and the Gibson didn't. I gotta say, the Gibson Explorer are one of my dream guitars, but it didn't have a Floyd Rose on it. Obviously, I picked the Gibson Explorer, and I was just wondering for Christmas, maybe I should order a Floyd Rose from Guitar Center and they could install it for me onto my Explorer? My friend says I shouldn't because the Gibson would lose it's value. I need your opinion guys, and I need the best opinions out there. Thank you very much!

Floyd Rose on a Gibson Explorer?
There's a reason that Gibson doesn't put a Trem bar on the Explorer. If I can editorialize for a moment, that's like putting foglights on a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. It ain't needed; isn't warranted; and you're doing the designers and engineers a gross injustice. Unless you play surf music or plan on being the next Steve Vai, a whammy bar is just a novelty. At one point or another (usually early on), most players want a trem bar for the dive bomb effects and the like. Then they realize that not many songs have a call for them, and then the bar is just in the way. Why bastardize a classic? Trust your friend's opinion on this one; leave the Explorer alone. When you get past the apparent need for a whammy bar and down to playing real chops that are unadorned, you'll thank yourself for not screwing with the laws of the universe.
Reply:Lose its value? It would up its value because it has a Floyd Rose on it. Thats like saying taking out crappy pick ups and installing some EMGs would lower the value because its not origional
Reply:if it's your guitar and you enjoy playing it and want to customize it to YOUR specs, go for it. maybe the value will increase since explorers have a regular fixed bridge
Reply:I believe your friend is right. However if you plan on keeping the guitar, do what you like. Rose whammys DO stay in tune well but the percentage of people who use them is very low. Your style may change in a few years and once you alter the guitar, it can't be UN-done. I say get a cheaper guitar like the Dean which has one already %26amp; keep the Gibson unmodified. Good luck.

What is a rose without thorns? What is a life without troubles? (what do you think?!)?

*Rose From a Thorn*

Many hardships and sufferings occur

Everything beautiful is just a big blurr

Pain pierces from a sharp cutting thorn

And All you can do is cry and mourn

Trials devour you, and there is no end

You feel like you have not a friend

All you can think about is searing pain

Forgetting God's powerful healing name

God watches you go through severity

He wants us to see his blessings with clarity

Call to him and he will make a way

Through the pitch black darkness of today

Out of the thorn will bloom a red rose

All of its wonderous beauty will be exposed

Maturity and love will blossom and grow

God's perfect will and purpose you'll know

What is a beautiful rose without a thorn?

For it makes the rose's beauty reborn

What is a life without trials to endure?

It will create a thankful heart so pure

What is a rose without thorns? What is a life without troubles? (what do you think?!)?

Here you are on the Internet, I'll bet you have air conditioning, and you have plenty of food! You have a car, and a TV, maybe even cable. You should speak of hardships?

We all have hardships, but compared to the Majority of the word we have life easy! Get off you high horse. Damn I have a problem with people who are so wrapped up in themselves that they can't see the word!
Reply:Yes a rose is pretty but them thorns are ruff. This goes for life. Life is nice but, due to the fact that satan came into this world, it's tuff. So one day if we wait soon enough God will keep all the roses but take away the thorns.Case over with, Next.

Hi, this is my little rose tale-what do you think about it?

A big life of the little rose

a little rose so beautiful,

growing in a grass,

didn't know what to do.

tiny rose in a world so huge,

full of big strong flowers,

world not knowing of her too.

as time went on,

like it always does,

rose started gaining her splendour.

higher she was,

above the grass,

everyone wanted to own her.

she seemed to be fragile,

soft colour, soft leaves,

to get easy enough.

nobody knew,

nor even guessed,

she was truly in love.

one sunny afternoon,

a perfect day,

her love came to carry her home.

so glad she was,

didn’t resist,

when he was breaking her haulm.

large room filled with empty space,

narrow vase on the table,

little rose standing inside.

three days she stayed there,

watching her love,

after that – happily died.

Hi, this is my little rose tale-what do you think about it?
very good...poignant too!

"A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner Question?

In "A Rose For Emily" by William Faulkner, what is the significance of the rose as mentioned in the title? Does the rose represent someone in the story? Is it symboic of something in the story?

I appreciate your time and any insight/ help you can provide.

Thanks

"A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner Question?
a rose means symbolizes love. Love was still there despite her condition.
Reply:this is what I had in my notes from summer school:

In interviews, William Faulkner gave these responses about the title of the story: "Oh, it's simply the poor woman had no life at all. Her father had kept her more or less locked up and then she had a lover who was about to quit her, she had to murder him. It was just 'A Rose for Emily'--that's all." "I pitied her and this was a salute, just as if you were to make a gesture, a salute, to anyone; to a woman you would hand a rose, as you would lift a cup of sake to a man."

The rose may be seen as a memory, a tribute, a graveyard memento for Emily. In this sense, the story itself is the rose. With this in mind, you should consider the well-known interpretation that Emily represents the South and its dying customs during the period of Reconstruction. Although Faulkner himself refused to give credence to a North-South interpretation, students may see in Emily the struggles of change and compromise that marked the South during its transition from an aristocratic agricultural society to a more industrialized region (much like change being Emily’s nemesis).

However, the conflicts in Emily are only part of this interpretation: the voice of the town reveals how the South sees itself and its past. At times, its ugliness is obvious, but time and circumstance may encourage a romanticized view of what South represents (a “moonlight and magnolia” idea), just as the townspeople develop a nostalgic memory of Emily when she dies. The rose, then, might be a tribute for a dying culture, or for the death of a certain vision of that culture. There are also those who argue that Homer himself, preserved for eternity, as the title’s rose. Think about what most women do with special roses they receive—they dry them so they can preserve them forever, just as Emily does with Homer (I know—sick).1

Searching - rose-Golden Sunset. Outer petals-golden yellow, inner-ruby red. Growing-sunset-glow w/inner light.

My favorite rose is called the Golden Sunset Rose. I have never been able to find them. Someone else did, and gave them to me as a present. Their outer petals are a golden yellow, the inner petals are a ruby red. While they are still growing, at sunset, they seem to glow with their own inner light. They are sometimes confused with the Confetti Rose, whose outer petals are red/pink and the inner petals are yellow. I keep searching floral websites, but am having no luck.

FTD has a bouquet that looks like what you're going for. If these look right you may have to ask FTD what their name is.

Pete Rose - isn't this bogus?

So, we have Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Marc McGwire, and Rafael Palmeiro juiced up, and chances are, some of them will get into the Hall of Fame.

On the other hand, Pete Rose is NOT in the Hall of Fame, even though he is the all-time Hits leader.

If cheating is bad, and Pete Rose was supposedly bad for baseball, how could any of these other players get into th Hall of Fame?

More to the point: Isn't is bogus that Pete Rose is not in the Hall of Fame? If this Hall were for "nice" people, how could Ty Cobb be in?

Can someone explain this to me?

Pete Rose - isn't this bogus?
I say...

LET ROSE IN!!!!!
Reply:wrong answer. thumbs down. Report It

Reply:Pete Rose should be in the HAll of Fame

He never bet against his own team so he never threw any games
Reply:The only way Rafael Palmeiro is ever getting into the Hall of Fame is if he buys a ticket. The steroids thing will keep Sosa and McGwire out too. Bonds was a Hall of Fame player before he ever juiced up (assuming for the moment that he did); a lot of writers may not vote for him the first time his name comes up, but they're probably the ones that weren't going to vote for him anyway because of the way he treats sportswriters.

On the other hand, anybody who wants to give Pete Rose a pass just doesn't get it. The rules betting on baseball, as they should. If the outcome of a particular game is questioned because a participant had money riding on it, then how is baseball any different than Big Time Wrestling? After all, if the result is pre-determined than how can it be a sporting event?

Pete's latest rant is that he always bet on his team to win; that's funny Peter because you've spent the better part of the last 20 years denying you even bet on baseball.

Pete Rose's accomplishments on the field were unequaled, but his actions off the field were detrimental to the game and far out-weighed his contributions, IMHO.
Reply:Get a hold of the baseball commisioner Bud Selig to get Pete's status change so he CAN get into The hall
Reply:Rose ADMITTED to conduct that was harmful to the reputation of baseball - therefore, he was ruled ineligible to be inducted to the HoF.

It's not a foregone conclusion that Sosa, McGwire, or Palmeiro will be inducted inspite of their glowing statistics. Right now, I'd bet no way....

Bonds has yet to be charged, nor has he failed a drug test. I'd also say there's a VERY good possibility that once this plays out entirely, that Bonds may not only be banned from the HoF, he may also do some time.

No one ever said the Hall was only for nice guys, but in he final analysis, Rose has only himself to blame for being banned, no one forced him to gamble and he also knew the potential risks because of his conduct.

That's not to say I agree with his ban, but until Bonds is found to have lied or admits to it, we can't base decisions on instinct, they need to be based on facts....Oh, and by the way, although Cobb was an SOB, he never gambled on, knew of a fixed game, or threw a baseball game...the same can't said of Rose or Shoeless Joe Jackson, so both are banned...
Reply:Pete Rose doesn't have a shot at the Hall of Fame for many reasons, one being that none of the players involved in the Black Sox World Series of 1919 is in the HOF. If Pete Rose goes in after he was found guilty of betting, they'll have to let Shoeless Joe in, even though he had a lifetime ban placed on him from the commisioner of the time.
Reply:Pete didn't kiss the CORRECT #$$. Didn't grease the right palm.

I have lost ALL respect for baseball, and will NEVER watch another game as long as I live.

Why bother.....

Part of the rules

Part of the time for

Part of the people.

I try NOT to participate in CORRUPT systems ( I admit, I vote ).

Rescued Rose not producing Buds?

We're flipping a house and have been working on the garden. Last year we cleared out a multitude of overgrowth and mulberries grown absolutely wild by a previous owner who neglected the property for what seemed years. Lo and behold, there was a 8' rose stem which we lopped back to three feet and replanted in a better area.

This year it's lush and filled with green and continues to have great foliage - but no buds. I'm ready to give up and rip it out for the garbage but the curiosity is killing me as to what type of rose this is. Does anyone have any idea on how to get a rose to bud after growing wild for years?

Rescued Rose not producing Buds?
Try putting your banana peels around the bushes. I have great rose blooms using the peels. Leave them for another year and hopefully they will bud.
Reply:My sister used wheatgrass pulp as fertiliser for all her plants, from papaya trees to flowering household plants. The results are fantastic. So many fruits and flowers. Non flowering plants are growing wonderfully.

She extracted the juice from the wheatgrass for drinking and used the pulp as fertiliser for many years now. Try it and see the results.

Wilting rose bush. What to do?

I planted a rose (disneyland resort rose) in an appropriate container. She stared sprouting new growth but all of a sudden they're starting to wilt. I don't know what could be the problem as shes well watered and I used rose soil to plant her. Shes getting enough sunlight and the other two roses that are in containers next to her ( brandy and blue girl) are doing beautiful. I don't want to lose her because she is a show stopper. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Wilting rose bush. What to do?
Where are you? Is this an indoor or outdoor plant? Is the container drained? How long ago were the three roses planted? Same soil and container types?

My guess is that you've got bad soil or root rot or a phloem translocation disease, but I can't tell from information given.
Reply:Roses like rich loamy soil and they like to be watered often. If you live in a dry climate I would up the water usage maybe 2-3 times per week. If you live in an area where you get lots of moisture and you are also watering it could be getting too much water.

Inspect your roses closely you might have aphids, thrips, or powdery mildew these are insects and fungus that roses are sucetible to.

Cut off a good clipping from the bad rose and take to your nearest nursery store. Ask for a store manager or horticultist...They just might have the answer for you.
Reply:Any climate change may shock plants. I don't know where you live but this time of year is when you prune roses to prepare for spring. By encouraging growth now may cause destruction to the plant if the weather gets to cold and freezes the new growth.
Reply:Is this an outdoor plant? This is the time of year that roses go dormat and you cut them back.

Climbing rose plant?

Okay i just bought a climbing rose plant. I have no experience with taking care of these... anyway I noticed one of the stems on my climbing rose plant is bent and the rose petals are starting to turn black; its not fully bloomed yet. should i cut it off below the bend? or should i just leave it alone?

Climbing rose plant?
Trim it off.

Click below for an excellent website for climbing roses. They do require a little bit of special care which is usually worth it when you get one in bloom that stops traffic from it's beauty.
Reply:if the bent stem is bent right over it may be that anything past the bend is dying. So just prune it back to before the stem. generally just in front of a set of leaves which will encourage a new branch.

Just another piece of advice about the climbers in general - usually blooms will come on branches that are horizontal, so try to train it that way to get more bloom.
Reply:Yes trim it off below or at the bend also you are going to have to provide the rose something to climb on like a treliss.

Blue rose....?

Are there any blue rose seeds that i can grow?

Or can i make a blue rose if i put a white rose in an basic solution because roses are an indicator....

Blue rose....?
Well, the petals will turn blue if the rose the cyanin pigments in the petal soak up a basic solution. But don't you think the plants will die if you water them something like lye? I think what the guy above me said about watering white roses with blue pigment would be a much better gardening idea.

However, it seems like blue roses have been created through genetic engineering:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_rose
Reply:put a white rose in water with blue ink/dye that will make you a blue rose.
Reply:Seeds, I don't know. There is some research on this possibility. I suspect that they are very expensive.

Regarding making a white rose turn blue in a basic solution - doubt it.

It is very likely that some rose colours may change; but first of all, the stem/plant would actually have to have the ability to absorb the hydroxide ions AND get them to the flower petal to react with the "indicator"

As an aside, it is unlikely that blue dye were it placed in the water would osmose to the leaves/petals

Does the red rose symbolize lust?

Me and my boyfriend like to learn about random stuff like symbolism and Mythology. Well, when we were talking on the phone I told him that "the red rose symbolizes love" like for valentines day. And he said "No, the red rose symbolizes lust."

I asked my dad if that was true but he thought the red rose was for love also. I'm kind of curious and am wondering what is really true for the red rose.

Serious %26amp; Reasonable answers only please! =D

Does the red rose symbolize lust?
it means love..

Reply:I think a red rose can symbolize whatever you want it to. Love or Lust.
Reply:i would say it symbolizes love because a red rose is INTENSE, it means adoration. i would say white means devotion, pink means affection, yellow means friendship, lavender means admiration, coral means warmth, and hot pink i would think means lust

My rose bush leaves get brown spots and then turn yellow and fall off. Leaving my rose bush bare of leaves.?

What can I do to keep my rose bush from getting brown spots and then losing their leaves? It is on all my rose bushes at my home outside.

My rose bush leaves get brown spots and then turn yellow and fall off. Leaving my rose bush bare of leaves.?
Go to home depot they have a spray for this, but the best thing is to pull them off by hand and put them into a plastic bag and throw them away, any that fall on the ground leave the disease and grow right back into the rose so you have to pick them off the ground too and throw them away. I know what a pain, I am going Thur this too.
Reply:Your Rose bushes may have something called leaf spot as well as other fungus problems, spores from the fungus is transported by flowing air, that is why all your rose bushes have the same problem. Mine has it to , as well as a mildew. You have to spray a fungicide on a routine basis.

Look for a brand that kills as many fungus as possible and devote yourself to this part of gardening. Always follow directions, I prefer the kind of spray you have to mix yourself, you'll need a 2/ 1/2- 3 gallon sprayer and your fungicide, if you do not use all of your mixture, store it in a cool area, away from children and pets. Good luck to you.

The Third Rose?

A very sexually active woman tells her plastic surgeon that she wants her vaginal lips reduced in size because they were flapping in the breeze.

Out of embarrassment she insisted that the surgery be kept a secret and the surgeon agreed.

Awakening from the anesthesia after the surgery she found three roses carefully placed beside her on the bed.

Outraged, she immediately calls in the doctor. "I thought I asked you not to tell anyone about my operation!"

The surgeon told her he had carried out her wish for confidentiality and that the first rose was from him: "I felt sad because you went through this all by yourself."

"The second rose is from my nurse. She assisted me in the surgery and empathized because she had had the same procedure done some time ago."

"And what about the third rose?" she asked.

"Oh, that rose is from a man upstairs in the burn unit. He wanted to thank you for his new ears."

The Third Rose?

Any ideas for horizontal rambling/climbing rose supports?

i have several english rose bushes in my front flower bed. i've decided to let them ramble, but a tall structure would be completely unbalanced and unattractive. i'm considering a short (3-4 ft) picket fence. what do you think?

the bed (B) is a sideways-L-shape, front door to driveway,

like this:

Any ideas for horizontal rambling/climbing rose supports?
sounds great..
Reply:I sometimes use old tree stumps and branches, to add a natural look, coupled with some wire, to help train them ramble and spread. Sideways growth will produce more flowers, as it slows sap and produces buds. You could add some more permanent elements, as the old branches etc. will decay over time. for this you could use some more discreet wood, metal or plastic supports, that are somewhat hidden by the natural parts. It's also easy to add preservative to the tree branches etc.
Reply:Like your diagram...

I used old ladders for supports - might sound strange but they look cool. (really old lovely wooden farming ladders)

Please help!!! Will my rose survive? Its stem is cracked!?

Just today, I bought a rose called Fame, its a Hybrid Tea Rose, and it says Grandiflora Rose, whatever that means. It has 3 stems one the root, with 2 flowers blooming. I didn't get to plant it yet today, because there was a huge storm which just passed. The wind was so bad it took the cushions and flew them 5 yards away. my stupid dad, throught the cushions into the shed. right were i had the rose which i was trying to protect from the heavy wind and rain. The cushion hit one of the stem and it "cracked". It wasn't falling off or anything or even cut, it was just hanging over, 4 inches below the bloom and 6 inches above the root. I'm doing everything possible to keep it alive, I put two tooth picks around the crack and taped it, and then made sure it would stay straight with a peice of wood and a string, then I watered it. Will it be ok? I'm really worried, since it was so new. Will this rose, and its stem survive? Will it ever flower again? Thanks in advance.

Please help!!! Will my rose survive? Its stem is cracked!?
Very Good! Suggestion go to hardware store or some place like Lowes buy some clear plastic tubing about the size of most flower stems. Cut a length long enough to extend 3 or more inches above and below the break then slice it length wise to make a splint tape around the tubing until the wound heals. Just make sure that it is together enough to be able to draw water thru the stems.

It can and will survive . It make have some sickly looks about it, but just keep babying it.

Plants really do like people and they do like to be talked to.

PS the guy that said it won't survive apparently dosen't know anything about gardening. What you are doing is similar to grafting.

OPEN THE LINK BELOW

http://extension.missouri.edu/xplor/aggu...

Grafting is the act of joining two plants together. The upper part of the graft (the scion) becomes the top of the plant, the lower portion (the understock) becomes the root system or part of the trunk.
Reply:The future looks bleak for the plant. If it has no branches coming out from the main stem, it won't be able to photosynthesize enough to feed itself or grow . Do you ever read physorg.com? They had an article where it is proven that plants will get along with family members. When placed next to other plants, they actively go for root growth, but if the other plant is from their family, they're at normal growth.
Reply:I repaired my Rosa mutabilis when one of its main stems split longitudinally. I used a plastic cup and lid cut to fit around the stem in two halves. I filled the halves with sand closed them snugly around the stem. I wrapped the cup with tape and kept it wet for an entire fall %26amp; winter by lifting a lid edge and wetting the sand. I then supported the entire stem %26amp; cup on a rebar stake because the split was several feet above ground. My idea was to press the split stem firmly together while keeping it from drying out, and to keep it from moving in the wind. Here in Seattle it was pretty easy with the rain we get to keep it moist. The rebar was planted in the ground about a foot deep so held the stem steady.

The stem healed rather thicker and was very strong by next spring.

I would cut the flowers off the damaged stem so there is less draw on its resources and less weight to pull on the healing joint. Then feed the plant with low nitrogen high phosphorus and high potassium fertilizer.

Nitrogen encourages new leaves that you don't need while phosphorous helps grow flowers but more importantly new roots. Potassium helps general vigor, strong cell walls %26amp; disease resistance. Look for N-P-K like bone meal at 1-11-0 and green sand at 0-1.5-7 to help your rose.
Reply:ok my dad used to work at a flower shop for like 15 years and he said it should be fine just wrap it in a wet rag and keep the rag wet.
Reply:Most likely...no your flower will not survive due to oxygen and stem veins coming out of the stem!
Reply:Yes-your rose will come out again. sounds like you are a better surgeon than a planter-- (re--the taping of the rose bush.) Your rose needs to be cut off right above the first bud on the stem that was broken. Its allright to cut roses back when they are torn- diseased or dead from something.. They will usually put out more stems. In fact we cut roses back sometimes to about 6- inches about Feb, 14. I can always remember to prune my roses at Valentine Day because that is what we get usually for valentine. Always prune out any dead limbs-- crossed limbs or if it is growing too large. I think your rose will survive this crack if you just prune it back right below the cracked place in the stem. Don't be so hard on your Dad. he probably just meant to save the cushions. My husband don't see my flowers sometimes ( bless his heart) most men don't see our little flowers and last week he pushed a wheel barrow right over my flower bed. The week before that-- he was going to pull some ( he thought weeds) and pulled up my red petunias. He meant to do well-- maybe your Dad did also. Forgive him and cut the rose off right below the cracked place. Water it well when you plant it and remember that it doesn't go in the ground below the root ball. If you put it in the ground below the root ball -it will have side shoots that will be from the Mother plant it was grafted from to make this hybrid and it will not be the same as what you bought. Good luck on your roses-- remember do not get water on the leaves --this causes black-spot- only water the ground under the rose bush.

it won't kill the rose. you can take it off and it will be fine .it will die any way.you might want to put a limb sealer on the broken off part,so that it won't get diseases. hybrid tea rose and grandaflora are two different types.tea roses get 4-5 feet tall.grandaflora's get taller.
Reply:It is ok to just cut off the broken branch, do it at an angle so water will roll off and it will be fine.
Reply:If you've taped it into almost the exact position it was in before, it may knit and join back together. Your rose will be 2 roses, almost certainly, the roots of one type, and shoots that have been grafted onto the roots, of the Fame variety. These have knitted into the structure of the roots, just above ground level:you'll probably find the join, if you look.

Otherwise, if it doesn't grow well - as the break will be an area of weakness that could incur infection - then you'll need to prune back to below this point. You'll probably need to do this anyways, come next spring. Cut down to the next bud, prune at an angle pointing downwards, on the opposite site of the stem that the bud is placed at: it'll be at a small point on the stem, where you'll see a small indentation and possible tiny shoot bud. Roses respond well to pruning - typically done every spring - and it makes them vigorous, so don't worry. They're tough creatures, if given plenty of TLC, which you seem to be giving it. They're shallow rooters, so ensure it stays moist, possibly by adding a mulch, and also give it a good regular feed. Good luck!

I planted a renegade rose branch, will it grow?

We moved to a new home last summer and it came with a beautiful rose bush in the back with gorgeous pink mini blooms...and right next to it, a peony offspring was intertwined with what I thought was a baby from the rose bush. So I thought I'd sacrifice the peony since I have others that are well established, and move the baby rose bush to the front where there'd be more sun and I could enjoy it more. Come to find out when I started digging, it was attatched by a nice thick root to the main rose bush. I had no idea roses did this! Well, the damage was done, I sliced right through that big fat root, so I thought I'd just put it in the ground up front anyhow and see what it does. Has anyone done this before with positive results? Is there anything I can do to help it along? I also moved another rose that looks to be only a few years old from the other side of the house that was being over grown by a forsythia...and he's looking a bit weepy! Hope I didn't just murder my roses!

I planted a renegade rose branch, will it grow?
Only time will tell unfortunately. A lot depends on the environment they are in. Make sure to feed it fertilizer!

hey! It's great that you moved them to where there is MORE sunlight! That can't hurt!

Can you grow a rose bush from a rose hip?

The rose bush that the rose hip is on is a red rose bush and was transplaneted to my yard at the begining of the month. The rose hip is almost ripe.

Can you grow a rose bush from a rose hip?
You can't grow a Bush out of a rose. Try out of a Cactus.
Reply:Yes.To harvest the seeds from a rose plant, cut the hips from the plant, wash them and cut them in half with a knife. The round to oval , slightly pointed white seeds can be easily removed. There may be 1-50 seeds per hip. Next, wash the seeds in a kitchen strainer. Although rose seeds can be sown as soon as they are harvested, germination is usually more successful if they are placed in the refrigerator in an airtight container between layers of moist sphagnum peat moss for 6-8 weeks before sowing. This process, known as stratification, simulates the cold of a natural winter, priming the seeds to sprout. After the cold treatment, use tweezers to remove the seeds from the peat moss. Before sowing, you may wish to test them for viability, or the ability to germinate. To do this, place them in a container of water. Those that are not viable will float to the top and can be discarded. Seedlings often succumb to a disease known as damping off, caused by one or more fungi that are present in most garden soils. Seedlings that have succumbed to damping off suddenly wilt and fall over. There is no cure for this so, prevention is the only remedy. Use a sterilized, soilless sowing mixture. Sow the seeds in a wide, shallow container filled with about 4" of the medium at a depth of about a 1/4". Rose seeds germinate best under greenhouse conditions. If you do not have a greenhouse, cover the seed flats with clear plastic or glass to keep the medium moist and the humidity high until the seeds germinate. If condensation forms on the plastic or glass, remove it for a few minutes to dry slightly and to prevent disease. Rose seeds germinate beat at temperatures between 50 and 55 deg. F. but will germinate at temps as high as 60 deg. Place the flats in bright light but not full sun for as many hours as possible, or keep them 6-10" below fluorescent lights that are kept on continuously until the seeds germinate. Germination time can take from 3 weeks to 4 months or longer. When you see short stems with 2 seed leaves called cotyledons, remove the plastic or glass and move the containers into as many hours of full sun as you can provide. Or place under fluorescent lights. Check them every day to see if the medium is dry and if they need water. Avoid watering in any way that will dislodge or uproot the seedlings. A very fine mist or spray is ideal. Once your seedlings are growing, ensure steady growth by adding soluble fertilizer such as 20-20-20 or 15-30-15 to the water once a week at 1/4 the recommended strength. When seedlings have produced 3 sets of compound leaves, they're ready to transplant into individual pots. First moisten the medium in the original container then fill 2" peat pots with moistened growing medium and make a hole the depth of the roots at the center of the pot. Gently lift out the tiny plants, disturbing the roots as little as possible. Holding the seedling by the leaves (never by the stem) gently place into new pot and firm the medium around it. Continue to provide light water and fertilizer. When a plant is about 4" tall transfer entire soil ball to a 4" pot and fill the extra space with potting medium. The first flowers will appear by the time the seedling is 4-5" tall, about 6-8 weeks after germination. Don't be disappointed if the flowers aren't very exiting as the do not represent the blooms of a mature plant.
Reply:Rose Seed Propagation

By Albert Ford

(adapted from the November – December 1999 MRS Newsletter)

On the threshold of fall, your roses are doing some interesting things. They are in the process of

converting spent flowers into seeds, for one thing. If after the middle of September, you ceased

deadheading, you have increased the probability of the rose bush producing viable seeds from which an

entirely new rose might germinate--if you do a few simple things.

1. Collect Mature Hips : Regardless of time of year, if a rose bloom remains on the bush after the

flower has faded and degeneration of the petals begins to take place, the rose bush will begin to form a seed

pod (rose hip). Sometimes the entire spent flower will turn brown. Such a hip will not produce viable seeds

and should be ignored and pruned away in your late fall pruning. On the other hand, more often than not,

the calyx tube (enlarged part just below the sepals) of the spent flower will begin to swell and gradually

change color from green to red or orange. Some hips remain green and do not change color. After the hip

has changed color, it is mature and can be harvested. I generally wait until after the first heavy frost, at

which time, I pick the green as well as the red and orange hips. The hips from a specific rose bush should

be placed in a container on which the variety’s name is written.

2. Shelling the Hips : Any time after harvesting the hips, they can be opened and the seeds

removed. Opening the hip can be done with a knife. Don’t worry about cutting through a seed, they are

very hard. Drop the seeds into a glass of water to which a teaspoon of Clorox has been added. Those that

drop to the bottom of the glass (sinkers) have a much greater probability of germinating than those that

float on the surface (floaters).

3. Stratification: Subjecting seeds to the cold of refrigeration (35ºF, not freezing) is referred to as

“stratification.” I place my rose seed in separate containers with a little moist peat moss. (I use empty

35mm film canisters). Mark each container with the name of the rose variety that produced the seed. Place

containers in refrigerator for 45 to 60 days.

4. Planting the Seeds : The seeds are planted in a tray (about an inch or more in depth). They are

placed 1/4 inch below the surface of the growing medium, covered and kept moist. I use Pro-Mix as a

growing medium and place the seed trays under grow-lights. The secret is to keep the medium moist, but

not wet. Set timer to have lights on for 16 hours, off for 8.

5. Seedling Treatment: A seedling may appear in as little as two weeks, but it generally takes

longer. The first two leaves that appear are cotyledons; the third leaf to appear is a true rose leaf. After two

or more rose leaves are visible, I carefully transplant the seedling into a three inch plastic pot, keep it under

grow-lights and give it a few drops of a weak solution of Miracle Gro (1/2 teaspoon to a quart of water). A

flower may arrear in as little as three weeks. Keep track of the variety; if it is a good rose, you may want to

give it a name and get it patented. Good luck!

Reply:Yes, of course you can, but it won't work well.

As you probably know, most roses you buy at a garden center are not "own root" roses. This means that the rose you see growing out of the ground probably has a different type of rose grafted onto the root. My wife knows the reason this is done, but the short answer is because most roses aren't very hardy. The roots are from very hardy roses called rugosas. Another problems is that you have no real idea of what the rose will look like when it blooms. If the rose was a hybrid tea, then your rose will look nothing like it. So it is a gamble on what you get.

Growing roses from hips is a long, tricky process that results in a weak rose plant, and probably one you wouldn't want to look at very long anyway.

Sorry, by my answer is no.
Reply:Why the **** did she write so much?
Reply:i thought your questions would be more interesting than us poms but the answers talk about sermons just cut it in two stick the seed in some compost you might get 50% if your lucky good day

The rose bush that the rose hip is on is a red rose bush and was transplaneted to my yard at the begining of the month. The rose hip is almost ripe.

Can you grow a rose bush from a rose hip?
not an easy job. you have to keep the hip in the crisper of the refrigerator for a couple of months and then plant the seeds in potting soil.

BTW the resulting rose will not be the same as the plant it came from. All modern roses are propagated via grafting. Usually because the root system of new roses are not very good. They take shoots from a living plant and graft them to an old world rose. When the graft takes hold they cut off the old rose stem and the root system then feeds the new cutting. That's why there is a "ball" near ground level where the new rose grows from.

A homozygous rose-combed rooster is mated with a single-combed hen. All of the chicks in the F1 generation were kept together as a group for several years. They were allowed to mate only within their own group. What is the expected phenotype of the F2 chicks?

a. 100% rose comb

b. 75% rose comb and 25% single comb

c. 100% single comb

d. 50% rose comb and 50% single comb

B

since rose comb [B] is dominant to single come [r] there are more chances for the rose come than in the single comb
Reply:Are you working on an online test and trying to cheat? LOL
Reply:It is letter b,because if you mate a rose comb to a single comb, the offspring will be either rosecomb or single comb only, forexamplethe dominant trait is rose comb, it is just 75 % and the remaining percentage is for the weak traits

Rose Tyler on Doctor Who?

Billie Piper at the end of the episode talking to Catherine Tate? Is this supposed to be the Rose "before" she met the Doctor? Or did Rose somehow make it back from the parallel universe?

Was she just an image (like the Doctor was when he said Goodbye to her), and that's why she faded?

And.... going WAY back here..... isn't Romana and one of the K-9 models still in "E-space" from the Tom Baker era?

So ... Rose may come back, and with the Doctor could still find his companion from earlier... and not be the Last of the Time Lords.

wow.... any thoughts or am I just rambling ???

Rose Tyler on Doctor Who?
Rose is back from a parrelle universe...

Last week they filmed the (UK) Christmas special where I live and Rose is supposed to be in it...

And I'm too young to remember the Tom Baker era, but he could well not be the last of the Time Lords..

The master came back afterall. xx

Rose Garden!?

I'd really like to plant a Rose Garden, but what do I start with? I've heard a Rose bush, but can I ge tthose at Lowe's or Wal-mart? And, rose bushes come from somewhere, do they sprout form seeds or what?

Rose Garden!?
Hello Andrea C,

Choosing the Right Rose for your Garden

There are literally hundreds of types of roses that you can grow in your garden. With such a selection to choose from, it can be extremely difficult to choose the rose that’s right for you. To make this task a bit easier, I’ve added some crucial factors that you should consider, and some of the different types of roses to aid in your search.

# Color may seem like a trivial matter, but it is usually a factor to those that want to grow roses. Usually it is simply a matter of personal preference.

# The final growth height of a rose should be considered as it would be unattractive to grow roses that are higher than the area of the garden that it grows in. Some roses can grow to be as high as 20 feet.

# If you live in an area that is prone to cold winters, you would certainly want a rose that could survive during the off season.

# If certain fragrances invoke an allergic reaction, you would want to plant roses that have a softer fragrance than the others.

# You would certainly want to learn what the advantages and disadvantages would be if you were to choose certain roses over others.

# You will want to consider the size of your garden space, so that you can ensure proper exposure to the air and other elements as well.

# If you are hoping to make your roses into bouquets, you will want to know if they can be cut. Hybrid teas can. Some roses will fall apart at the petals if they are cut.

# You should also consider what other types of flowers or plants you intend on adding to the rose’s environment. You want to add plants and flowers that will not create a damaging environment to your rose’s ecosystem.
Reply:Lowes %26amp; Home Depot do carry roses, so does Wal-Mart. In fact the local Wal-Mart here has gotten several varieties in over the last week. All different kinds and sizes as well as prices. I shop at all 3 for mine. You can go to a nursery, but they charge much higher prices for the same basic stuff.

P.S. One of those garden gurus on a DIY show recommended putting a banana peel at the base of a rose bush, a few inches from the trunk and burried a couple inches down. I thought it was wierd, but tried it. It really seems to help mine bloom larger, longer and more. Just be sure to dead head them when the blooms are done for.
Reply:Roses grow in many forms. Some grow into bushes 2-3' tall, some grow into long, arching bushes 6' across or more, and some will climb like a vine if trained onto a trellis. If you're new to roses, I'd suggest doing a Google search for easy-care or low-maintenance rose varieties. Many of the most popular roses are plagued with disease problems that greatly increase the amount of upkeep, but there are hardy and disease resistant ones. Also, I suggest finding out your hardiness zone and only buying those varieties that are hardy where you live, or you'll set yourself up for a lot of disappointment. Yes, they do come from somewhere! Rose breeders take one plant and pollinate the flowers with pollen from another plant, sometimes a cultivated variety, sometimes a wild species, and any seeds resulting from this are a new variety. If it's a worthy variety (that's up to the breeder to judge), they then take cuttings from the new young plant after it has established and root the cuttings, creating many clones from which they can then take more cuttings/clones and then start selling the new variety. All individual plants of one variety are the same plant genetically. Many rose varieties are centuries old! Good luck!
Reply:Start by locating a sunny location in your yard to create your garden. Roses need a least 6 hours of sun to grow and flower well. Most need to be planted about 2 1/2-3 feet a part so you can figure out how many roses you can put in the space you have available.

Roses need not be segregated to a strict rose garden but can also be mixed into your shrub or perenial beds.

You can get roses bushes at any garden center include Lowes and Home Depot etc.

You will have to decide what kind of roses you want or should I say the purpose of the roses. For example if you want classic roses for cutting like the kind you get from a florist you will want to buy Hybrid tea ,or grandifliora roses - but be aware this type of rose needs specific pruning and spraying to keep is leaves from getting disease. For me they are too much work.

If the goal is lots of color in the garden, but don't want to spray - I would suggest disease resistant landscape roses. They don't typically have long stems for cutting and the flowers while plentiful typicaly have less petals so you do not get the classic rose look. This is what I would recommend, as they are plenty beautiful and can add lots of color to the garden.

Here is a list of the best disease resistant roses:

Oso Easy Peacy Cream - Double peach flowers

Oso Easy Paprika - An abundance of Bright orange flowers

Oso Easy Strawberry Crush - Double soft pink flowers

Flower Carpet Rose - Low ground covering roses

Knock Out rose - hot pinkish red flowers.

Pink Knock Out - single pink

Double Knock Out - Double red

There are other landscape roses with fair to decent disease resistance. These too will work but it helps if you can avoid getting water on the foliage when you water them. If you cannot avoid this because you have an irrigation system, water in the moring so there is time for the leaves to dry off.

All flowering plants start out from seed, but most all shrubs you buy including roses are clones make by either cuttings or grafting stems or buds of the selected varity on to a cutting or seedling. Plant breeders cross pollinate different plants, collect the seed, sow then out, and then select only the best plant to introduce and sell. Plants of this selection is then grown as a clone from cuttings or grafting so that it's the same everytime you buy it. Seedlings are too variage, just like children in a family every one is unique. Cuttings, etc. are predicatble every time.

Pete Rose is irrelevant to Barry?

Why is it that white people criticize blacks and other minorities for defending our athletes, yet whites always try to put rose in a better light by slamming Bonds?

Rose bet on baseball knowingly despite there being rules against it, while Barry used roids when MLB ignored them while Mcgwire used them in 98.

Rose also allegedly corked his bat and used amphetamines, and as a manager put himself in games so he could break Cobb's record despite the fact that he sucked.

So, why is it that people, specifically white baseball fans, kiss Rose's **** so much but slam people like Stephen A smith for doing the same to Bonds?

Pete Rose is irrelevant to Barry?
Pete Rose broke Cobb's record in 1985. While he WAS the manager of the Reds at the time, he definitely didn't put himself in the lineup just to get the record. He hit .264 that year, and his .394 OB% was very good for a 44 year old, and was an All-Star (albeit mostly on reputation.)

That being said, he should NEVER be inducted into the Hall. I don't understand why some people think he should be. He broke the Number #1 rule of baseball - don't bet on baseball (as a player, manager, executive, etc...)

.
Reply:This isn't a race issue. Rose earned his stats, Bonds didn't.
Reply:Your comments, although having some merit, are grossly discredited by your use of the race card. Race has nothing to do with it, yet you use it like a crutch. Not ALL white people criticize blacks and minorities for defending "your" athletes. And just how are they "yours?" This is a baseball site, not a politics site. Chill out..... And, BTW, how do you know that only white people are criticizing Barry??????
Reply:I don't believe this is a race issue as much as an issue about Bonds' attitude most of his career. He's been a pompous *** for most of his career. Nothing wrong with that, but he has to face the reprecussions of his actions.

As far as the steroid issue goes, before Bonds was to go in front of the Grand Jury, he was told that he would be given immunity from being charged with anything in turn for giving an honest testimony. Well, he still chose to lie!!!! I have no pity for the man.

Bonds broke the HR record. I believe it should stand without an asterix. Reason being, steroids, however illegal, were not against the rules in the MLB. His record won't stand long though. A-Rod will soon beat it. Peace!!!!
Reply:O.J. got away with murder
Reply:Does a Lion and a Tiger make a Liger?
Reply:I have no sympathy for Rose whatsoever.

No, check that -- I do hold out one, tiny whiff of sympathy in the matter of his application for reinstatement. Rose filed that in 1997, and ten years later Seligula still has not ruled on it (and, to be fair, is under no mandate to do so). Rose is a swine virus, but he deserves an answer. That answer should be "No" and it is well past time the Kommissar resolves this issue.

Rose broke a rule, knowingly, repeatedly, and with full knowledge of the defined sanctions.

ALL the users of steroids or HGH or Chemical X were trying to play better and win more, which is the very goal of the competition. Baseball is a competitive enterprise that attracts, retains, and REWARDS competitive people. The governing body should have laid down some enforceable rules if it considered such usage a problem. No rules, no rulebreaking.

Not offering exoneration, just noting that the circumstances were perfectly aligned for this controversy to occur.

My rose bushes leaves are turning yellow and dying.?

I have several rose bushes that are blooming and look healthy one day, then the next time I look, the leaves are yellow with brown/black spots. The leaves fall off until the bush is stripped completely. The rose bush then leafs out again, and fills in. The rose bush continues to bloom this entire time. I use a rose bush bug spray once a month...I guess it is not working. Any ideas what it is, and how to cure???

My rose bushes leaves are turning yellow and dying.?
Rose black spot, caused by the fungus Diplocarpon rosae, is the most common cause of defoliation of landscape roses.

Symptoms

Fig. 1. Leaf symptoms of rose black spot.

Small, round spots, ranging in size from 1/16" to 1/2" in diameter, appear on the upper sides of leaves. Leaf tissue adjacent to the spot turns yellow. Whole leaves eventually turn yellow and fall prematurely. Black spot can be distinguished from other leaf spot diseases of rose by the generally fringed margins and the darker and consistently black color of the leaf spots. Similar spots may appear on petioles and fruit. Raised, reddish-purple spots may also appear on canes. If black spot is left uncontrolled and early defoliation occurs, bushes are weakened and cane dieback the following spring may be severe. Weakened plants may continue to die even after the plants leaf out.

Cultural Control

A preventative program for black spot should begin in the fall with a thorough sanitation program. Diseased leaves on the ground should be raked and burned or removed. All diseased canes should be pruned back to healthy wood. These practices will reduce the amount of overwintering fungus. During the growing season, overhead irrigation, which prolongs leaf wetness, should be avoided. If plants are overhead irrigated, watering should be done in the morning rather than the afternoon so that leaves dry quickly.

Chemical Control

Fungicides registered for black spot control should be applied preventatively to susceptible roses starting in spring before the new leaves become spotted. From this time through frost, the plants should never pass through a rainy period without a protective coating of fungicide on the leaves. Fungicides registered for black spot control include propiconazole (e.g. Banner), thiophanane methyl (e.g. Cleary 3336), chlorothalonil (e.g. Daconil 2787), mancozeb (e.g. Fore, Dithane, or Maneb), thiophanate methyl + mancozeb (e.g. Zyban), trifloxystrobin (e.g. Compass) and myclobutanil (e.g. Systhane). Most of these fungicides can be sprayed at 7-10 day intervals when rains are infrequent. During rainy weather, it may be necessary to spray the plants more frequently. Details on rates and timing of application can be found the current Virginia Pest Management Guide for Home Grounds and Animals (VCE Publication 456-018) or the Virginia Pest Management Guide for Horticultural and Forest Crops (VCE Publication 456-017), http://www.ext.vt.edu/pubs/pmg/. For information on the proper use of pesticides and fungicides, refer to any current VCE pest management guide.

Rose riddle?

This riddle is floating around at my school again but no one will tell me the answer. For example, someone says, If I am a rose, and Mary is a rose, are you a rose?Or she uses another example. What is the trick?

Rose riddle?
The trick all depends on how the examples were given. It helps if they also give and example of someone who isn't a rose. Usually the trick refers to some gesture or body position (eg crossed legs or crossed arms). Be observant when they ask you and look for patterns.
Reply:May be,

Her name is Rose and her friend Mary's name is Rose Mary; she is asking whether you are also a Rose (means you also have a rose in your name) !!!
Reply:I heard a similar riddle called "who's the killer". In this riddle, whoever speaks first after the person asks "who's the killer" - it's that person. Sometimes they trick you and say "who's the killer this time" and it's that person because they said "this time".

Pete Rose hall of fame, no and yes?

Bench was the reason i even knew who Rose was.his stats would get him there, but a lifetime ban is just that,.but hear this, when showing my son what it takes to be a true ball player, you can bet your *** Rose was not only talked about,in how he played , but also the responsabilty that goes along with the game and not tarnishing it. we watched tapes of Rose, and i am proud to say i watched my son take a ball four, and run to first base. MR ROSE THAT THERE IS YOUR HALL OF FAME

thats all i wanted to say thank you

Pete Rose hall of fame, no and yes?
Pete doesn't belong in the HOF.

His accomplishments on the field *are* given their proper due in the Museum in Cooperstown.

I'm glad your son plays with enthusiasm.

" they made this a question, it was written as a statement "

Yeah. It seems like they automatically add a "?" at the end if it's not there.
Reply:Nope.
Reply:NO - for 2 reasons only

#1 - he bet on baseball and is serving a lifetime suspension as result of knowingly breaking the biggest rule the game has

#2 - players who are banned from the sport for life are not eligible for induction into the hall of fame according to its' rules.

Keep in mind that MLB and the Baseball Hall of Fame are 2 separate entities. Also keep in mind that Pete Rose knew the rule about betting on baseball, he knew the punishment for doing just that, and he knew what the results of that punishment would mean to his Hall of Fame eligibility. Nobody forced him to break the rules, and now he is paying the piper. I too loved Pete Rose as player, but after hearing about what a self serving, pompous *** he was, I am convinced that he simply thought he was bigger then the game itself. As a player, I give him a 10 - as a human being , I give him a big fat zero.
Reply:Yes.

1. How can you take out the all-time hits leader from the Hall of Fame? He didn't do drugs or steroids. That was him playing out there, giving it his all.

2. The bad things he did (gambling) happened AFTER he retired as a player. We are not putting Rose there as a Hall of Fame manager, we are putting him as a PLAYER.

3. Even during his gambling days, there is no record of him betting on his own team (as manager) to LOSE. He always bet on his team to WIN, and that was how he played: to WIN.

4. MLB always forgave people who were repeat DRUG offenders. Taking drugs is a CRIME anywhere you go. Gambling is NOT a federal offense. It is LEGAL in many places. If people involved in gambling should get lifetime bans (including Mantle and Mays of all people for a short period in retirement!), all the more must people involved in drugs, which is a WORSE example for children. Make it fair.

5. If we are talking about personality (not skills and talent), then agreed: Pete Rose is not an ideal human being.

But what about Hall of Fame players like Ty Cobb who were worse persons, and RACISTS to boot? A lot of those Hall of Famers were bad persons in private too.

Pete Rose belongs.
Reply:yes he gambled, but did he play the game with talent? yes! he belongs in the hall. Barry Bonds dosen't. Barry is gonna break that record becasue he had a little help from performance enhancers. Pete Rose is the player he was because he had talent and knew how to use it.
Reply:What kind of example would MLB be setting if they allowed a man who signed and swore under oath that he would never bet on the game of baseball only to dishonor himself by lying and doing so?

Yes, Pete Rose had some great numbers during his career but he traded them all away over money.

Pete Rose simply has no honor and has no right to be in the hall of fame beside great me who are worthy of being there.

The last time I checked the hall did not have a gamblers section in it.
Reply:Anyone who hold the record for most hits in MLB history deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, first ballot!!!! Look at the man's stats.

Most career hits (4,256)

Most career games played (3,562)

Most career at bats (14,053)

Fifth in career runs (2,165)

Most career total bases, switch-hitter (5,752) (seventh overall)

Second in career doubles (746)

44-game hitting streak (tied for 2nd longest in history)

The NL MVP Award (1973)

The NL Rookie of the Year Award (1963)

17 All-Star appearances

Enough said. How much better can it get than that?!?!? So... yes Pete Rose is a first class Hall of Famer.
Reply:Pete Rose played the game the only way he knew how, the RIGHT way. He was a tough, no nonsense player, and he deserves to be in the hall, no if's and's or bu'ts!! The young players of today could learn a lot by watching how he played, it's a shame what he's had to go through.
Reply:When you look at this several things stand out. He is the All-Time hits leader. I doubt ANYONE will EVER get near his hits total. Pete Rose the player deserves 110% to get to the HOF. That being said though, Pete Rose the manager does not. He did break a rule, but that didn't affect the # of hits he had, or the level of intensity that he played with. If Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, or Sammy Sosa are even talked about with the HOF, then Pete needs to be given a pass. Nuff Said.
Reply:Rose definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame.
Reply:Pete Rose should absolutely be in the Hall. I don't think he should have been betting on baseball... but unless he bet against his own team or was in a position to influence the outcome of another game, I can't really see where I'd have a problem with it.
Reply:Yes he belongs. Nuff said.
Reply:Why not?

Ok, he was a bad boy and broke some rules - so what!

Given what is going on in national politics and people getting away with all sorts of things that are of higher national security than baseball I say let him in.

Better still let our current president pardon him.
Reply:he is already in the WWE hall of fame
Reply:Yeah, too bad baseball has that rule about gambling and Pete knew that and yet, didn't care.

The rule about gambling is a good one to have in there because someone may do something they wouldn't normally do.

Shame Pete was that addicted or that greedy or that bored, but when the rules are posted, and ignored, it is more telling of the organization that doesn't carry it out.

If you let it slide for Pete, who else do you let it slide for.

Where's the point where you say "you weren't good enough to cheat and get into the hall where this guy was"

Since there are a few people with votes that vote for him, if it was such a strong issue, then he would be a write in on 75% of the ballots, but after lying to everyone for 15 years, it's a dead issue.
Reply:yes he belongs, only as a player, not a manager.

he has all the numbers, there is no reason he shouldn't be in the hall of fame as a player.

but, they put a lifetime ban on most of the 1919 white sox team, and shoeless joe and buc weaver have yet to get in the hall of fame...so i really don't know if pete rose will ever get in.
Reply:Hall of fame? Yes. Since it is a historical record of the game. Banned for life? Yes. He cannont make a living from MLB in any way.
Reply:no he broke thr rules
Reply:I think Pete rose broke one of the cardinal rules of baseball, gambling on your own team. Everyone knows what will happen if you bet on your own team the Black Sox taught us that.

With that being said Pete Rose does not deserve to be in the hall of fame during his lifetime. When he passes away he should be elected on the first ballot and immediately inducted into the hall. During his playing years he was what every ballplayer wanted to be. He played hard everyday and gave his all. When all is said and done and he will be in the hall he will be remembered for how he played
Reply:Pete Rose was a great player, one of the best. No one will ever dispute this. He broke the rules. If you let Rose slide on the betting, what's going to be stopping anyone else from doing it? If players and managers can get away with betting on baseball than you're gonna have a way bigger problem with the integrity of the game than steroids. With steroids people are cheating to win. With betting people cheat to loose. Which is worse? If you let Pete Rose in than you gotta let Joe Jackson in, too. Look at his stats, they were amazing. But that doesn't make up in any way for what he did. What's with all the sympathy for Rose anyways? He knew what he was doing. And it's not like he needed the money.
Reply:yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes

I cant say yes enough times.
Reply:Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame. He is one of the best players to ever play the game. Forgive and forget MLB.
Reply:yea!
Reply:yes he belongs

the all-time hits leader DESERVES a spot in the HOF

he bet on baseball as a manager. that was wrong. but his playing career was totally different from his managerial career.

pete rose (the player) epitomized the perfect ball player. played hard, always hustled, never quit, a team leader and a great teammate
Reply:yes he was an amazing story. he deserves it..end of story
Reply:Yes. Pete belongs in the Hall of Fame. There is no evidence that he bet AGAINST his team, and I seriously doubt that he would do that. He would stand to gain much more financially by having his team win than lose.

Okay, so he bet on baseball. He broke the rules. So has every player that corked a bat and doctored a baseball. Not to mention guys like Steve Howe that have been suspended for drug violations (7 TIMES in Howe's case). But hey, sit out a few games and welcome back fellas. Pete was taken out on a witch hunt by a commissioner that completely despised him, and now there is a commissioner without a pair of you-know-whats that won't take a stand on anything. He just ducks every issue like a true politician.

Pete has paid his dues and his penalties. It saddens me that there are so many people out there that can't see past the intense media assault on Pete, and and realize that he belongs in the Hall of Fame next to a bunch of other men with much bigger character issues than he has.
Reply:No.

Never, never reinstate this sorry excuse of a fraction of a man. I don't know from where comes the incorrect notion that his ineligibility is "lifetime" because it is not. Rose's ineligibility is PERMANENT. His being alive or dead makes, and will make, no difference. I do suppose it might be fair to reinstate Rose when "permanent" expires.

The Hall really is not an interesting question, but it is not suffering without him, nor without the handful of diehard Rose supporters, apologists, and general sycophants who dutifully must be boycotting the Hall.

I am curious though -- to those who claim Rose has "paid his dues", exactly what dues has he paid? What reforms has he undertaken of himself, what retributions has he undergone, what makes him now a better person (he certainly is not an innocent one) than he was in 1989? I really would like an answer to this. Do try.
Reply:yes at least he didnt do steroids or illegal drugs all he did was bet on baseball if thats the case then everybody in the world is as guilty as he is nobody is perfect
