A rose plant is growing out of the stem of a dead rose. How do I plant and take care of this new plant?

I was given a rose two weeks ago and I put it in a vase with water. I kept it in the window next to my bed. The rose died after a few days as expected but i left it in the window anyways for a little longer. And now a little green plant has sprouted out of the middle of the stem of the dead rose. I would to plant this new plant but I have no idea how to go about it.

A rose plant is growing out of the stem of a dead rose. How do I plant and take care of this new plant?
Evidently the stem is not dead all the way though. I would rememove the entire thing and plant it deeper in new poting soil, keeping it in the sunlight and moisture. cut off dead parts above the rose.
Reply:Put the cutting in some perlite and water. Water alone will not allow it to develop a strong root it needs the O2 that the perlite will provide. After you have a good root system put it in potting soil and THEN add the Miracle Grow.
Reply:Cool, I would let it grow a little longer then plant it in a pot of black dirt for roses with starter Miracle Grow.
Reply:Go to your local nursery and get a small jar of rooting hormone (Rootone is a well-known variety, but I'm sure there are plenty of others). Cut the dead blossom off, as well as most of the stem ABOVE the new growth to lessen the possibility of disease and infection. Next, prepare a pot with good-quality moistened potting soil (DO NOT use soil from outdoors); I prefer plastic pots so that the pot doesn't absorb moisture from the potting soil. Clip a small piece off the stem at the bottom, so that fresh tissue is exposed, and dip it into the rooting powder. Then just stick the stem into the soil, firm the soil around it, and put it back where it was already growing (since you know it "likes" that spot well enough to send up new growth!). Keep the soil moist, but not wet, and by spring you will very likely have a new little rose bush all ready to plant outdoors. Good luck!
Reply:you will have to keep it wet and hope that it sprouts roots fron the woody piece . just be patient and it might work out . usually though the green will die off , cloning roses is kinda tricky . but i do wish you god luck !

remember you want roots to form before you try to plant .

pete
Reply:I would cut off the dead parts and put rooting hormone on the end of the little plant and put it in a small pot with potting mix and water it. Put it in a place with lots of light and try to keep it going till next spring when you can transplant it outside. Very unusual!
Reply:I got your email but i cant email you back because yours isnt confirmed.

Anyway, thats the coolest thing ive ever seen, i would trim the extra stem off and stick it in some mirical grow water and see if it will sprout roots.

THats great!

White Rose Society?

Hi, my friends and I are working on a project about the "White Rose Society", and i have a few questions my friends and I cannot find. And if any of you know any of these answers, and you have gotten these facts from a book or website, please list the book or website. Thank you.

#1.Why was it called the WHITE ROSE?

#2.Why the WHITE rose?

#3.Why ROSE?

#4.Is there any website that has alot of information we need?

#5.Any book(s)?

Thank You.

Sincerely,

Ryan, ChaCha, and Adriy.

White Rose Society?
The group initially consisted of five students, all in their early twenties at Munich University.

The origins of the name are not clear but the historian Zeller wrote that the colour (white) represented pureness.

Between June 1942 and February 1943, they prepared and distributed six different leaflets (known as the leaves of the white rose) in which they called for an end to Nazi oppression and tyranny through active opposition of the German people.

Hans Scholl and his sister Sophie led the rest of the group, including Christoph Probst, Alexander Schmorell and Willi Graf. They were joined by a professor, Kurt Huber, who drafted the final two leaflets. All six members of this group were arrested, tried, convicted and executed by beheading. A seventh leaflet was found in possession of the students at the time of their arrest by the Gestapo.

The leaves of my rose look like burned on the edges. Do you have any idea why?

I have the rose into a pot next to the window. It is a lot of sun, but as I know it is ok for roses. I give water to my rose every second day. And lately I gave my rose some liquid fertilizer. I put the water together with the fertilizer into a tray and then I place the rose into that tray for 15 minutes each time. The question is what is causing my rose to have the leaves burned on the edges just like being burnt by fire? Can it be the sun? Or is it the fertilizer? And what should I do to prevent that happen to my lovely rose if it is not the sun or the fertilizer?

The leaves of my rose look like burned on the edges. Do you have any idea why?
roses are heavy feeders and it is unlikely you over fed it from what you described. roses are outdoor plants. when you have an outdoor plant inside it will not get the required amount of humidity or moisture in the air. typically, you have to spray the foliage with a misting bottle or actually have a humidifier in the room. this could cause your leaves to have a scorched appearance in combination with full sun through a window. cut the affected leaves off and start spraying the foliage with fine mists of water in addition to what you were doing. hope this helps.
Reply:If you have the time, take one of the leaves to a local plant nursery or garden center. Ask to speak to a certified landscape specialist...they should be able to help.

It may be a combination of the plant being root bound, chemical fertilizer %26amp; sun.
Reply:Maybe too much sun, but most likely too much fertilizer.

Plants require WAY less than what the fertilizer companies would have you believe, and most of the time, none at all.

If you just have to use it, do so at about 1/3 of the manufacturer's recommendation.
Reply:or is it the window,by the way is the same as a magnifier.

easy fix, create some shade with a taller plant by it.
Reply:i think that it must be drying out. i think water more because of the fertilizer and the sun combination. probably just a little more than you do now, so you dont drown it. oh, and make sure there is no open flame by it, so it doesn't actually get burnt! lol ^^...
Reply:If the rose was doing fine before you fertilized, its possible you over did it, which will burn the plant. Water your plant really well, since it is spring, put it outside and flood the plant to help rinse away the excess fertilizer. You may find an 800 number on the fertilizer to call they may have suggestions on what to do or they may have a neutralizer. Good luck!

Rose bush experts: Looking for old fashioned variety called "peach rose". Help?

We want to get a very special gift for Mom's caregiver, and she had mentioned in passing an old-timey rose bush called "peach rose". She described the flowers as pink (not peach colored as I would have thought), and miniature, in small clusters. She said you don't see it too much anymore, but it might help me locate it if I knew more about it. Her description was a little sketchy.

Does anyone out there know what she's talking about - and even better, where I could find it? Thanks for any help you can give!

Rose bush experts: Looking for old fashioned variety called "peach rose". Help?
Sounds like "Margo Koster" which is a Polyantha and fairly hardy. Margo's bloom like crazy and are great in pots. The link below will give you more info and photos. Might not be the exact rose, but certainly fits the description and is really very lovely.

Reply:That sounds like a local name for a rose, not a real name for a certain variety. Often times people have a general regional name for something that others know differently.
Reply:google peach rose or peach roses. You get several pages where you can order peach rose bouquets. However, if you're looking for a plant try your nearest garden center.
Reply:Here is a rose breeder that specializes in miniatures.

They have more minis then I knew existed, but I didn't see one called "Peach rose". Is there any chance she could have been mistaken on the name? Anyhow, you can browse the roses and see if you can come up with something.

I can't find a pink rose named Peach rose online either.

Good Luck

Red Rose, White Rose, Pink Rose or Yellow Rose?

What does each rose symbolize? Red is romance, right? What about the others, such as pink, white or yellow?

Red Rose, White Rose, Pink Rose or Yellow Rose?
What difference does it make as long as a man sends you flower!
Reply:Here is all you need to know about roses! :

• Red Roses: Red roses say, "I love you." Red roses are the ultimate symbol of romantic love and enduring passion. Florists can't keep up with the Valentines Day demand for red roses, which makes them especially expensive in February.

• Pale Pink Roses: Pale pink roses imply grace, gentleness, and joy.

• Light Pink Roses: Light pink roses express a sense of fun, happiness, and whimsy.

• Deep Pink Roses: Deep pink roses say, "Thank you."

• Lilac Roses: Lilac roses indicate the sender has fallen in love at first sight with the recipient and is enchanted. (To make sure the recipient doesn’t miss the message, an appropriate card might also be a good idea. The meaning of lilac roses isn’t as widely-known as the meaning of red roses, for instance.)

• White Roses: Pure white roses symbolize truth and innocence. They also send other messages like, "I miss you," and "You're heavenly” (or both, if your loved one is away.)

• Coral Roses: Coral roses express one thing through their passionate color: Desire.

• Peach Roses: Peach roses signify appreciation, gratitude, modesty, and also can convey sympathy.

• Orange Roses: Orange roses communicate enthusiasm, desire, and fascination on the part of the sender.

• Yellow Roses: Yellow roses indicate friendship and freedom ― so don't send them if your intentions are romantic and long-lasting. Yellow roses are also appropriate for sending congratulations to newlyweds, graduates, and new mothers.

• Dead Roses: Regardless of the original color, dead roses say "It's over," loud, clear, and in a tacky and less than classy way.

Combining Colors

Put two or more colors of roses together, and a new rose meaning arises:

• White Roses + Yellow Roses: A symbol of harmony.

• Red Roses + Yellow Roses: A message of happiness and celebration.

• Red Roses + White Roses: An indication of bonding and harmony.

Other Rose Symbolism

These are acceptable ways to convey a meaning giving roses:

• 12 Roses: Gratitude. Any bouquet in full bloom also implies the “full flowering” of the emotion being conveyed: a bouquet of red roses in full bloom implies the full flowering of love.

• 24 Roses: Congratulations

• 48 Roses: Unconditional love.

• Single Red Rose: "I love you," (but I'm not going to go broke telling you.) A single red rose in a bud vase is a great way to surprise and charm a loved one.

• Single Rose of Any Color: "Thank you," (and I'm still not going to go broke saying so.)

• Two Roses Entwined: An engagement or marriage is in the near future.
Reply:I think that a red rose is 100 times better than a white, pink, or yellow rose.
Reply:Here you go.

MATERIALS FOR EASY RIBBON ROSE

22" of #9 (1 1/2) wide ribbon

----------------------------------------...

DIRECTIONS:

--------------------------------------...

1. Make a knot at one end of 22" ribbon length. At opposite end, poke out wire from one side. Loosely gather ribbon along this wire down to knot. Do not pull to hard as it could snap. Continue gathering until entire side completely is ruffled and curling naturally. Leave wire end free; do not cut off.

2. Form rose by holding knotted end in one hand and begin to spiral gathered ribbon around knot loosely with other hand. Wrap tightly at first to form a "bud", then continue wrapping lightly so that it flares out and acquires an open rose effect.

3. At end, fold raw edge down to meet gathered edge, as shown. Secure by wrapping wire length around knot tightly and catching in free end; cut wire end off. Adjust "petals" as needed to create desired effect.

FOR LEAF

4. Cut a 3" strip of #9 ribbon (1 1/2") wide. Fold each end diagonally to center. Then, fold each side towards center again forming a point. Gather bottom end and wrap with wire to secure .

DESIGNER TIP

Fashion an Easy Crimped Rose: At the end of step 1, lightly hand crimp all of the un-ruffled edge in tiny little pleats. Then, complete the rose following last two steps.

Rose Quartz?

I have recieved a rose quartz from someone and i have it in my room cause i share an apartment with a friend. All I have gotten from this Rose Quartz's is some very bad dreams and visions. What's up with that. I thought rose quartz was a nice crystal.

How do i purafy my crystal????

Rose Quartz?
Rose Quartz is not necessarily a peaceful stone, sometimes It can make painful supressed feelings surface to the top. But overall, it is the stone of unconditional love, it teaches self-love, it brings deep inner healing. It can also attract romance, so much that sometimes it needs Amethyst to calm things down. Rose Quartz is the finest healer and draws away negative energy.

Wear especially over the heart .

Rose bushes have little red ants - is this an issue or do they just need sprayed for bugs?

This is a separate rose bush (in a different area of yard) from the rose bushes in my previous question (re: wax-like substance on rose bush)

Thanks!

Rose bushes have little red ants - is this an issue or do they just need sprayed for bugs?
Before you spray, you might want to try buying some ladybugs. They're available by the bag at most garden centers, and will very likely enjoy the meal of the little ants! Then, when they're done, they'll just fly away, and you're left with no residues.
Reply:I agree with several here, if they are truly ants then they are feeding on the aphid excretions called honeydew. Find the aphids up at the top clustered around buds, on blooms and upper leaves. They are green insects (aphids come in many different colors, but most on roses are green) with two "tail pipes" on their rear end.....you'll need magnifier glass to see that.

Spider mites are usually lower in the shrub, very, very hard to see as they are nearly microscopic.

OK, back to aphid control: you really don't need to go with heavy insecticides. Aphids are pretty easy to control. The insecticidal soaps work great and you can also make your own (with care!!) Really no more than 1/2 tsp liquid detergent to a half gallon of water. Problem with homemade stuff is liquid detergent can vary in intensity from batch to batch, it isn't controlled by law. So one batch may not burn the plant, the next batch may.

Actually just blasting the aphids off twice a day with a very strong stream of water works well too. They don't usually return to the plant. For that matter, the water treatment also works on red spider mites.
Reply:Use Sevin-5 dust on them... just follow the directions
Reply:likely not ants but red spider mites. very destrutive if left untreated. leaves start lookong "lacey" like chlorophylll has been sucked out..most mites are on bottom of leaves. use a miticide like Green Light Spider mit spray and be sure to spray under leaves, not just on top. Also be sure plants are fully hydrated befor applying any chemical.
Reply:If they're really ants, they're eating other bugs like aphids which harm your rose bush.

If they're really spider mites, then you need to spray your rosebush because they will chew into the soft tissues of the plant and suck out the juices.
Reply:First of all, make sure they are Ants and not spider mites.

Unlike one user suggested, Aphids are not red, they are green. BUT-if you really have ants, you likely have aphids because ants are attracted to the sweet secretions of aphids. Aphids can be hard to see, but if you look on the new growth and unopened buds, you will see a bunch of little green things which are hard to distiguish from the buds...get out a magnifying glass. When you poke them, they will either fall off or move.

Spider mites also suck the juices out of plants, but they are tell tale from the weblike clusters they leave on new growth.

Here's my solution: Get some Bayer systemic granules for insects. Work the recommended amount in the soil (should be 1 lid full per rose, I've used it and it works wonders).

This stuff is going to take a week to kick in so everyday for a week, you'll need to really hose off your roses to knock off the bugs. Aphids usually die right away once they are knocked to the ground because they need a constant source of food.

If you spray or use a Sevin Dust, it's tough to do the whole plant and you have to keep reapplying it. The Systemic Insecticide will last for about 6 weeks.

Good luck!
Reply:those are aphids. Go to any nursery or home center, and purchase an insecticed that will eradicate aphids. Note that the rose bush in question will probably need multiple applications. Be sure to apply on the underside of leaves.

Rose question please help 4 homework........?

supose a plant breeder has a thornless rose bush with scentless pink flowers ,a thorny rose bush with sweet-smalling flowers ,and a thorny rose bush with scentless purple flowers\

How might the plant breeder develop a purebred variety of thornless sweet-smelling purple roses???????????

please help

best help gets best answer................................

Rose question please help 4 homework........?
OK:

1. Thornless, pink, scentless

2. Thorny, unknown color, sweet

3. Thorny, purple, scentless

Cross 2 x 3 and their thorny, purple, sweet-smelling progeny repeatedly until a thorny, purple, sweet-smelling rose is obtained which breeds true (gives only thorny, purple, sweet-smelling progeny). Do the same for 1 x 2 until you get thornless, pink, sweet-smelling.

Then cross these two pure-breeding hybrids until you get a purebred thornless, sweet-smelling purple rose.

Rose gold???

Hope someone who has expertise in gold can give me detailed info. A million thanks in advance. What is the difference between rose gold, white gold n yellow gold? What is the difference between 14k, 24k, 18k, 9ct, 10ct etc? how much are their current value? For example, how much is a exquisite 14k rose gold pendant (approx 2cm long) really worth (Quote the currency)? I see very great difference in pricing for rose gold chain on ebay for example? Why is that so? Are they much cheaper than those in retail stores? Gold filled/gold plated/gold bonded means that metal cast with a layer of gold right? Why are they so cheap? I bought one previously and the gold layer (seller claimed 'double-coated with 14k gold) wore off after one day(I perspire easily though not profusely)?

Rose gold???
Rose gold has a pink hew to it. White gold looks like silver/platinum, and yellow is the well-know colour of gold. 24k has more "gold" than 14k. A ring would be made of say nickel or some other metal with gold added to it. The more karats, the more $$$, and the more delicate. Pure gold is soft, thats why they use other metals. If you want prices just go to any local jeweller and they can show you all kinds of stuff. Some people react to gold, well more like the gold reacts to you. Your skin is more acidic than the average person. This just mean you have to get your ring plated on the inside with platinum or some other metal to stop this from happening. Sweat has nothing to do with it. Just mention that to the jewellers when you go. There are a lot of people that cant where certain metals.
Reply:Honestly, it's merely a difference in coloration. Rose gold is one of the colors used in "Black Hills gold" (along with yellow and green), but it's rising in price because it is also rising in popularity. It was very popular quite some time ago, and now is a sort of classic or vintage look that pairs well with pink pearls, etc. There really isn't much of a difference aside from the color, but the pricing of the different colors of gold, like with gemstones, fluctuates based on popularity and the control placed on it by the jewelry market. Yellow gold has gone fairly out of fashion and is often the least expensive because of this.

As far as gold plating, that should be much cheaper as it is simply a spray-on coating of gold, usually over the top of a cheap and very pliable metal such as sterling silver.
Reply:There is no such thing as naturally occurring rose, white, or green gold. Gold itself is only one color: yellow. All of these other "colors" of gold are produced by mixing pure 24K yellow gold with various other metals. The percentage of the other metals (copper, silver, zinc, nickel) produces the different shades of gold. Any karat other than 24K gold (pure gold) is called an "alloy". For instance, 14K gold is an alloy consisting of fourteen parts pure gold and ten parts other metals.

Rose gold, also known as pink gold or red gold, is a mixture of pure yellow gold with a high percentage of copper. Rose gold is created by increasing the copper-colored alloys mixed with the gold and decreasing the silver-colored alloys. 14K rose gold contains as much pure gold as 14K yellow gold but, because of the increased copper, is slightly pinker in color. Rose gold is available in both 14K and in 18K.

White gold is created by increasing the silver-colored alloys (zinc, silver, nickel) normally mixed with gold and decreasing the yellow-colored alloys (copper). 14K white gold contains as much gold as 14K yellow gold but is nearly white in color: NOTE -- white gold still has a very, very faint yellowish hint unless it is plated with rhodium, a common industry practice . White gold is available both in 14K and in 18K.

Green gold: Unless one is familiar with the appearance of green gold, the term can be quite misleading. The green color, like rose gold, is very subtle. Green gold is best described as yellow gold with a slightly greenish hint. Green gold is most noticeable when it is used in a piece of jewelry next to areas of yellow, white, and pink gold. The classic mixture that produces green gold is an alloy of pure yellow gold and pure silver -- though, for rings, harder metals such as nickel or zinc are sometimes added to make the gold more durable. 14K green gold would contain fourteen parts yellow gold and ten parts silver. 18K green gold would contain eighteen parts yellow gold and six parts silver.

In jewelry it's normaly sold by weight to the nearest tenth (1/10th) of a gram, and the actual cost per gram may vary according to the type, style, millimeter size, and weight of the item.

Right now pure gold is $672 and ounce. There are 28 grams in an ounce. Divide 672 by 28, and you get $24 per gram. But the jewelry you buy will probably cost less than $24 a gram because it won't be pure. But then the cost of making the jewelry is figured in. And the name brand, if its from a particular designer like Tiffany"s.

Well, there was a story I once read...

A person wanted to tell someone that he loves her. So he gave her three roses.. One in full bloom, one that was partially opened and the other a bud.

These roses had their own meanings.

A full bloom one meant that she loved him too... love in full bloom.

A partially opened one meant that she wasn't ready.. maybe she loved him, maybe not.

A bud meant that she did not love him... friendship was better.

I'll leave you to speculate which flower she chose.
Reply:Only people on TV shows give a crap about that. Go with the yellow roses and pink roses if you're going for friendship, I guess... red is obviously deeper.
Reply:Valentine's Day, use red. Friendship day, use orange or pink. Yellow means goodbye.

Alternatively, get one of those funny ones dyed blue, my friend gave me one and I will never forget her for as long as I live.
Reply:Red is for romance.

they all have thier meanings.
Reply:White is for friendship, red for valentines
Reply:White- virginal purity and respect good ones for your mother

Pink- romance someone you like or have romantic interest in

Red-Lust or love someone you love or want to have sex with

Yellow- friendship...self explanatory

Hope this helps...
Reply:red rose for valentine and yellow for friendshipday
Reply:Go with her favourite colour or a mixture of all colours in a pretty bouquet with plenty of green to break up the design.

Why would a red rose bloom on a white rose bush?

I have 3 rose bushes planted in my front yard. 2 are white and 1 is yellow. Last weekend I noticed a red rose bud on my white rose bush. There are about 15 white roses on this particular bush and now the one red bud is blooming into a beautiful rose. Does anyone have any idea why this one rose is so different?

Why would a red rose bloom on a white rose bush?
There's two possibilities. The first is that the red rose is due to spontaneous mutation in whatever founder cells gave rise to that particular branch of the tree. That's always possible, though I believe red is dominant over white, and so white is probably a loss-of-function trait and thus isn't likely to spontaneously revert to red flowers. A more likely explanation is that your plant was produced via a graft of two different types of rose plants, one red and one white. Grafting is a common technique and may result in a plant that is genetically non-uniform (including, even, different species of plant).
Reply:This is because of cross polination. The bees are going from one bush to the next and polinateing them (I may have spelled that wrong) so you can get roses of different colors because of this. We have a peach tree in our yard, and our neighbors have a different kind of peach tree in their yard and sometimes we both will get a cross of the two trees because we are the only ones on the street with them!!! I think its pretty interesting when this stuff happens!
Reply:Praise Jesus, its a miracle! Call the Vatican----
Reply:Some years back the white rose bush was probably grafted with a red rose bush, it might have taken some time for the red rose bush to "take" You should be able to have more red roses in the future

do you know any artist out there who do good floral tattoos?

do you think a yellow/white rose would look nice (i know most artists dont do whit ink tattoos though and that they can yellow over time or fade..)

what other colors would you suggest a rose to be for someone who has fair skin.

and please dont mention anything about pregnancy and how it will stretch.. i dont want any children!

thank you for your advice!

Im considering a rose tattoo on my hip....?
Actually, a red tattoo would look great on white skin. My husband is an artist so he knows which colors go with what. Also, i have a tattoo of cherries in that area and i'm also really fair skinned. Trust me, red makes pale skin pop, in a REALLY good way. Make sure that whoever you go to uses all disposable things. Even disposable ink because Hepatitis C is running rampant in the tattoo industry. Also, use sunblock religiously whenever your out in the sun because it would prevent fading. Good luck!

Other rose colors for people with pale skin is obviously red, and hot pink.

Light pink would look washed out.
Reply:to tell you the truth, yellow and white are the two hardest colours to take, White shows to much blood and yellow you may have to go back and get touched up...I have a Scottish flag on my back that has 2 hours of yellow in it and I have a couple of tattoos that have white high lights... I'd go with a lite pink or a soft red, but red is a hard colour to take too... get the one that you want it's your body...
Reply:good idea to avoid red. red ink can cause allergic reactions in some people.

i like the yellow with white highlights idea. a light orange or peach color with white and yellow highlights would look good too.
Reply:I'm thinking of a light pink but not too light where you can't see it. And maybe a black border or a darker pink border/outline on the light pink rose would make it stand out a bit more but not too much so it would look more suttle.

Which rose should I buy?

Could you recommend me a rose in the following categories:

1 Hybrid tea rose

2 floribunda

3 climbing rose

4 shrub rose

My criteria for my ideal rose are:

Good shape --- open to interpretation

Elegant colours --- open to interpretation

Great fragrance

Manageable size

Good disease resistance

Not too many thorns

Many thanks!

Which rose should I buy?
for fragrance and old-fashioned form you cannot do any better than to go with David Austin's roses. They are just delightful in so many ways.

Hybrid teas can be picky but the ones I love the most are

Peace

Just Joey

Fragrant Cloud

For climbing roses I love Graham Thomas which is a lovely yellow continually blooming. A lot of the climbers bloom once and that is it for the season. So be wary of that

good luck

Actually, Knock Out Roses are performing best in coastal Zone 7B (hot and humid) in the US, so disease resistance is key and the Knock Out and Carpet roses do the best. Hybrid Teas - I would select a Heirloom variety, but they are all really high care in most environments.

Otherwise, people choose them for color and scent, so I would contact your local Rose Society and visit some nurseries for local recommendations - the Rose Society will answer more honestly about care requirements, since they do not sell the solutions to rose problems. ;)
Reply:http://ars.org/About_Roses/rosy_recommen...

is a list of recommendations from the American Rose Society.

However, you will want to interpret it with an idea of what grows well where you are. For instance, I'm now near Portland, OR... very few roses won't survive our winter. I used to be from the northern midwest, where if you wanted hardy roses, you bought the Canadian Explorer series, Griff Buck's cultivars, or the Brownell Subzeros. Or some of the old species roses that just don't give up.

Assuming you're in the US, you might want to poke around on the ARS website, especially looking for groups in your area. There are also regional rose test gardens that you can visit. Your local extension service will most likely also have lists of roses that do well in your area.
Reply:Im not very good with roses, but you should go to David Austin Roses. I assume they have a website, If not they are in Albrighton Shropshire. They are the best rose people I know. I have been to their gardens and they are beautiful, well worth a visit if you are in the area. Try them they are very helpful.

The rose bush challenge: a gardener sells 10 different varietie of rose bush. a gardener wishes to buy 6 rose*

*bushes, all of different varieties.

i) calculate the number of ways she can make her selection.

this is the tough hard part:

Of the 10 varieties, 3 are pink, 5 are red and 2 are yellow. Calculate the number of ways in which her selection of 6 rose bushes could contain:

i) no pink rose bush

ii) at least one rose bush of each color

The rose bush challenge: a gardener sells 10 different varietie of rose bush. a gardener wishes to buy 6 rose*
i) no pink rose bush....

ommit pink, so there are only 7 flowers... so :

7C6 = 7! / (6! * 1!) = 7 ways..

ii) at least one rose bush of each color...

(2C1 * 3C1 * 5C4) + (2C2 * 3C1 * 5C3) + (2C2 * 3C2 * 5C2) + (2C2 * 3C3 * 5C1)

= (2 * 3 * 5) + (1 * 3 * 10) + (1 * 3 *10) + (1 * 1 * 5)

= 30 + 30 + 30 + 5

= 95

there are 95 selection ^_^

Flowering rose bud????

I just bought a white hybrid tea rose bush (honor) and some of the rose buds are having smaller rose buds grow from inside the first rose bud after the pedals fall off from the first bloom. I've never seen anything like this. 1 of the rose buds looks like it has a dozen more smaller buds. Does anyone know what this is???

Flowering rose bud????
it could be a question of what the rose was hit with.fusilade is a grass herbicide but can alter the genetics in broadleaf plants and make them do weird things just like your rose.it can cause some plants to have flat stems.take it back if not satisfied.hybrid tea roses have a single flower on a single stem so its not what you payed for.
Reply:maybe it has to do with the type of rose bush. some different types grow differently.

Brain teaser/Game: "if *blank* is a rose, and *blank* isn't a rose, is *blank* a rose?

Please don't answer if you have no idea or think it's stupid. Don't waste your time or mine.

There is a trick to this statement that only the speaker of the statement knows and I'm trying to figure out if anyone on the internet knows the trick. The speaker says someone is or isn't a rose, and then they could say that someone else is or isn't a rose, and then they can continue this process saying whether or not a person is a rose or they ask if this person is a rose. Then it is on the listener to say whether or not the person the speaker is inquiring about is a rose or not. It's such a confusing game. For example, one of the statements was "Joey is a rose, is Joey a rose?" The answer was no. So if anybody knows the trick I'd appreciate it.

I know its seems like there is no logic to it, but the whole point is to figure out what the factors are that make a person a rose or not a rose.

Brain teaser/Game: "if *blank* is a rose, and *blank* isn't a rose, is *blank* a rose?
We've played similar games, but each time the 'rules' will change and have to guessed...great fun, but aggravatingly annoying if you can't figure it out!

If this had been 'my' turn the rules might have been:

if a sentence begins with a vowel, then ....no, but if with a consonant, then...yes. - in relation to the Joey question.

You can think up multitudinous rules, which I love doing....the people playing with me usually give up before I'm ready to!

I don't know whether this is the answer in this instance.....I would need to hear some more suppositions and answers to decide for sure.
Reply:If he's still in bed, then he hasn't arose.
Reply:H'mMm ;-{ ??? Uh'mm GOo`.e', aWaY !! y`a,' Bother me !!?!! lol
Reply:I'm thinking along the lines where you ignore the actual words being said to concentrate on whether something is a statement or a question, so.....

Joey is a statement but

Is Joey a - is a question - So, when you say "?" Is Joey a statement" the answer is 'no'

Not quite got there yet......but, do you think I am on the right lines?

The Rose - poem?

I wrote this poem for my husband for valentines day- and i gave him a red rose w/ it. :)

This Rose

I took this rose

From my heart.

It’s been growing

From the start.

It will only live

For at least, 3 days through

Just to tell you how much

I’m in love with you.

As it dies,

its magic will stay.

Forever in your heart

To remind you everyday…

That when we hold hands,

kiss, and touch.

Each moment together,

each moment in love.

That nothing can compare of how I feel

When I’m with you.

And I’m hoping that you feel

The same way too.

Just a little bit of love made our

Rose Garden start,

If you ever need another rose,

All you have to do, is reach into my heart.

The Rose - poem?
I like it. it is pretty good, there is however a change I would make; "That nothing can compare of how I feel" I would change that to; "That nothing can compare to how I feel. Now that is just a simple suggestion from a simple person.
Reply:That was very sweet. Iam sure your husband would have been mighty pleased if you gift him with such a beautiful poem. You must really love your husband to write such a romantic poem.
Reply:find the poem so so. The part where you tell of your heart, how it is that it is a rose, is really touching.
Reply:aww thats so sweet! i liked it!

Rose Petal Ice Cream?

I recently tried rose petal ice cream and it was exquisite! I have an ice cream maker at home and wanted to know how to make the ice cream. Do you actually add real rose petals? When would you add them? How do you add them? The ice cream did have some pieces of rose petals, a slight floral fragrance and subtle taste. If you are familiar with ice cream making and have made rose petal ice cream before, I would greatly appreciate any tips or advice.

THANKS!

Rose Petal Ice Cream?
I am a former chef and have made it and had it in Singapore and in Paris also, if you use rose petals, make sure to get ones not sprayed with pestiside, some places have dried ones, tried a health food store, the rose syrup or rose water is from Indian stores or a Mexican shops.

With the rose petals dry them and crumble them into the custard base (I use condensed milk and a bit of light cream for richness), a bit of rosewater or syrup is a good additive, then process in the ice maker.

When you make the base, it should be a bit sweeter, keep some for after or to sprinkle on top, even a place that sells cake decorating supplies might have candied or crytalized rose petals.
Reply:Persian recipes on Allrecipes.com.
Reply:That's awesome! I had this ice cream in Paris! I made it at home afterwards. You have to use "rose water". Make regular vanilla ice cream base and then add the rose water. I had to go to a specialty shop to find a food-grade rose water. You could try finding it online... that's probably the best bet since they won't sell it in just any store.

You can also find the rose ice cream recipe online, try allrecipes.com or foodnetwork.

Good Luck!
Reply:You can get rose syrup at most Indian grocers. Some bottles have actual rose pieces in them. Simply add it to the other ingredients in the ice cream.

Rose jokes? rating plz?

There was once a great actor who could no longer remember his lines. After many years he finds a theatre where they are prepared to give him a chance to shine again.

The director says, "This is the most important part, and it has only one line. You walk on to the stage at the opening carrying a rose. You hold the rose to your nose with just one finger and thumb, sniff the rose deeply and then say the line 'Ah, the sweet aroma of my mistress.'"

The actor is thrilled. All day long before the play he's practicing his line over and over again.

Finally, the time came. The curtain went up, the actor walked onto the stage, and with great passion delivered the line, "Ah, the sweet aroma of my mistress."

The theatre erupted, the audience was screaming with laughter and the director was steaming! "You bloody fool!" he cried, "You have ruined me!"

The actor was bewildered, "What happened, did I forget my line?"

"No!" screamed the director. "You forgot the rose!"

Rose Bushes - problems with the graft?

I have a rose bush - which is grafted to a wild rose - because of where we live. The part with the graft is living and I am getting lots of blooms. However, the wild part of the rose has started coming up - is there anything that I can do? I have been cutting down the wild part, but not sure if there is a better answer. That wild graft is what allows the rose to grow in Colorado. Thanks

Rose Bushes - problems with the graft?
Hello fellow cold season-rose grower.

Unfortunately I think you're dealing with the problem in the best way. Keep cutting those 'suckers' down. They can eventually kill the graft if you don't.

The root stock is frequently 'Dr. Huey', an aggressive climber/rambler, that blooms only once a year. It's not worth seeing what you get, if you let the root stock take over.

I hope that this helps

Japanese rose and ordinary rose from same species?

why do they call it japenese rose?are they from same species. Japanese rose is so small and it does not look like the ordinary rose at all.. and it does not even smell like rose.

Japanese rose and ordinary rose from same species?
Japanese Rose is Kerria japonica in Latin, ofcourse, Rose is Rosa in Latin. Both belong to the same family, Rosaceae.

The Rosaceae family is one of the largest plant family (at least for cultivated plants for the North American continent).

Kerria and Rhodotypos are pretty closely related. They are probably closer to Spirea than Roses.

None of the plants that I just mentioned have much of a fragrance, if any. All are easy to grow, in full sun to light shade. Kerria and Rhodotypos are tolerant of more shade.

I hope that this helps

Good luck-
Reply:Never heard of "Japanese" rose .

"Same species"?

Do you mean that you have different roses on the same plant ? If so , you have a grafted rose, and are getting suckers from the root stock . If this is the case , follow the stems back to below the graft ( the knobby thing) and cut them off .

The graft should be planted ~4" below ground . If this isn't done , suckers usually result .If your graft isn't buried, bury it by adding soil . In some varieties, roots will grow , and you'll get in effect, an "own-root" plant , that is stronger, and less likely to die .

If the small , non-fragrant rose is all you have , it might just be what it is ( not all are large, or fragrant) , or the original plant (top) has died and all you have left is rootstock . Whichever it is , just a matter of personal preference , whether to keep it or not . If you don't like it ( sounds as if you don't), get rid of it .

If you decide to replace it with another rose, move the new plant at least 3', or dig out and replace the soil in a 3' radius . Roses exude something ( not sure what yet) that kills subsequent roses, for three yrs.

Good Luck

Rose bush sprouts?

I planted a rose bush and it died right after i planted it a year ago. last week I noticed a little twig that is a rose plant, red leaves, thorns: about 3 inches away from where I planted the original bush. it is about 6 inches tall. Will this be a healthy rose bush with flowers on it? how do I care for it to keep it growing. I kill every rose bush I ever plant. Live in Kansas.

Rose bush sprouts?
I don't want to get your hopes up, but it could very well be your bush coming back to life...or, it could be the ROOT of the rose coming to life.

Roses are generally grafted onto wild rose root stock, and it may be this root stock that is sending up shoots. If that is the case, you will not get the hybrid blooms you desire.

In any event, mulch it for the winter. Come spring, feed with rose food and hope for the best. You may not have flowers this year, for, although roses bloom on new growth (hence the importance of pruning), they need a 1-2-year old central s tem.

If you are "killing" rose bushes, methinks you might be planting them wrong, particularly too deep -- or not sunny enough area, or TOO sunny and hot an area -- the "knot" should be above ground -- there are lots of sites on the net that will give you advice on planting and pruning.
Reply:Couple of things, first when you plant the rose bush you need to keep the woody knot above the soil, second thing is to thoroughly mix in the hole that the rose bush a generous amount of organic matter ,and if you want to mix in with the first watering a starter solution for faster root growth. A final thinfg to remember about roses, especially when you see dead branches or branch ends ,you must prune the dead section of or it will affect the health of the bush, keep the soil moist and even better to add about 2 inches of organic material/compost. Remember moist ,not waterlogged. Maybe watering once a week.
Reply:it sounds like a sucker plant. it wont produce any flowers and it will just grow like a weed. if your plant was dead for a year then it isnt just going to come back to life.

i suggest pulling it out and buying a hardier plant instead.
Reply:The same thing happened to me this year also. I planted mine in June of last year and just noticed a 12 inch twig a few days ago.I have done nothing with my rose twig as of yet. When it gets colder I will mulch it and put a syrofoam cone over it to protect it over the winter. I am in Michigan zone 5. I will be watching your question for answers for me to.
Reply:sounds like you may be planting them to deep.

the sprout is from the root stock used in the rose that died, this rose will be hardy, healthy and of an old or wild root stock. Most likely it will be a bush rose that has small blooms and will bloom only 1 time a year.

good luck
Reply:It is most likely a sucker, but that doesn't mean that you can grow and enjoy it like. If your original rose was a hybrid tea then that is a grafted rose and you will probably end up with the root stock rose which is typically a white rose. If it was an own root rose then you very well end up with the rose you began with. I only grow a couple of hybrid teas because they are fussy, they then to lose their grafts, and they are disease prone. You might try some own root roses from Heirloom Roses or David Austin. I will also give you a list of roses know as Earthkind rose. These roses are the hardiest and most disease resistant and drought tolerant roses on the market. Heirloom and DA both have some of the Earthkind roses. From the Earthkind list, Your best bet might be Knockout roses because they are the easiest to grow and care for.

Black Rose?

i just started bringing back to life an almost dead red rose bush. it has two rosebuds growing on it. my friend is going to die in sixth months and she told me that she wanted me to put two roses on her casket; a red rose and a black rose. she and i know there is no naturally black rose. i was wondering if anyone knows how to succesfully "dye" a rose black.

Black Rose?
Get a white rose and cut the end of it at a slant, then put it into a glass of water and add black food coloring or dye.

Or, you can make a special order to a flower shop, I'm sure they'll know how to do it.
Reply:spray paint it very carefully
Reply:Florists use floral spray paint designed for spraying flowers.

You can usually purchase it at craft supply store like Michaels, call around. Or call your local florist and ask them if they will spray it.

hold a papertowel around the rest of the rose so it wont get black on it.

( warning it will smell like paint when its done and if you use regular spray paint get a matte finish.)
Reply:Just tell the florist and they will take care of this for you - you will have more pressing problems than this!@
Reply:Use Rit water soluble dye. Disolve in hot water then let it completely cool.........4 or 5 hours and then in the fridge overnight........before dipping the rose in it.
Reply:I believe that roses turn black form drastic temperature change try really cold like a freezer and use a red rose.
Reply:Design Master is the preferred brand of floral paint by most florists. It comes in black. Spray paining is much faster than dying. You can purchase this type of paint at most craft stores, or through your local florist (who will be happy to spray it black for you for a small fee if any).

A Rose for a Rose, Does yours smell as sweet?

So divine is the smell of the Rose

Throughout the day it scatters it's perfume to the wind.

The lingering odour of her sweet sweet scent

This is what reminds me of you

So soft are the petals of a rose

Brightly coloured for all to see

When one set dies, yet another takes its place

This is what reminds me of you

With thorns so prickly, dangerous and bare

To safeguard its rose from damage

But not the Rose that I'm thinking of

Mixing rose in to sandal oils OR condensing vapours of rose into sandal oil will make any difference?

I have two experiments as

1) Essential oil A (Rose oil) is mixed with essential oil B (Sandal wood oil) at room temperature. Physical mixture

2) Rose oil from rose petals is freshly distilled in to sandal wood oil. Vapours of rose oil are directly condensed in to sandalwood oil.

Can I see any difference in both experiments like stability, storage, color, appearence, odor, compatibility etc..

Mixing rose in to sandal oils OR condensing vapours of rose into sandal oil will make any difference?
Very small amounts of substances can greatly affect the odor. If you start with cold materials, you will have exactly a mixture. If you distill and condense one, some may be lost in the recovery and there may be some oxidation.

I do not think it will matter in the other observables.

In chickens, rose comb (R) is dominant to single comb (r). A homozygous rose-combed rooster is mated with a single-combed hen. All of the chicks in the F1 generation were kept together as a group for several years. They were allowed to mate only within their own group. What is the expected phenotype of the F2 chicks?

1. 100% rose comb

2. 75% rose comb and 25% single comb

3. 100% single comb

4. 50% rose comb and 50% single comb

In chickens, rose comb (R) is dominant to single comb (r). A homozygous rose-combed rooster is mated with a si
I believe its 2. All of the F1 generation chicks are heterozygous dominant. If all of them mate, there's 1 RR 2 Rr and 1 rr.
Reply:The answer is:

2. 75% rose comb and 25% single comb

You're told that the rooster is homozygous (RR).

Since single comb is recessive, you know the hen must be homozygous recessive (rr).

From this you know that all of the F1 have to be Rr.

That means that the resulting F2 would be:

25% RR, showing a rose comb

50% Rr, also showing a rose comb, because R is dominant over r.

25% rr, showing a single comb
Reply:The original parents were each homozygous, so the first cross was RR x rr. That means ALL the F1 chicks were Rr, so all the F2 chicks are the offspring of Rr x Rr crosses. You can use a Punnett square to do this. The gametes each parent can produce would be R and r. So the possible offspring would be in a ratio of 1RR: 2Rr: 1rr. Since rose comb is dominant, 3/4 (75%) would be rose, and the rest would have single combs.

It's actually not a great question. After several years, you would have several generations, so why even add that part in!

Rose bushes?

hello everyone,

i am looking for one specific rose bush , it is called joesphs coat rose bush. if you are not familiar with that name , it is a rose that changes colors like 2-3 times a day. does anyone know where i can get one of these at ? i found a climbing one at michigan bulb company, but i live in a trailer park and can not have climbing rose bushes . thanks for any information ,

Rose bushes?
Jackson %26amp; Perkins will probably have it. They have just about every rosebush you can imagine and then some.

They also stand behind all of their bushes.

Rose water question? I made rose water and rose jam for an almond rose bread recipe and?

the rose jam came out very nice and pink and flavorful. The rose water was a rusty reddish brown color with no smell or taste (much)...is that how it was supposed to turn out?

Rose water question? I made rose water and rose jam for an almond rose bread recipe and?
I would bring the water to a boil, turn it off and place the rose petals it it.

even try to put them in a large jar packed..then fill with water and place in the sun for a day or so and shake as often as you think about it....

the brown is from oxidation...

boiling might release the delicate scent...

In the matter of Pete Rose....?

Many times athletes bet on themselves to win, as in horse racing. Jockey's bet to win on themselves...I don't think there is anything wrong by betting on yourself to win as long as you play to win throughout the game and not intentionally lay back or not give it your all throughout the nine innings.

Other athletes have had problems with alcohol and gambling, but they handled it differently. One or three scenarios are presented here, which one do you subscribe to, if either...

1. Pete Rose deliberately threw games and allowed his team to win by only a margin to satisfy the win but not the coverage or points-runs offered by the odds makers. and/or allowed the other team to win, outright..... Which is wrong and illegal and suggests Rose was beholding to the odds makers and not to the game of baseball for whatever reason.

2. By the Commissioner of baseball taking the action he did, did the commissioner make a statement as to the legitimacy of the career of Pete Rose and condemn Rose to the accusations being 'fact' in the court of public opinion.

3. If Pete Rose handled the matter differently, perhaps by admitting he was a gambler, would the matter of Pete Rose have a different scenario. Was Pete Rose innocent and did Rose simply handle the whole thing wrong?

Which one of the above scenarios is accurate, if either....What is your take on the matter of Pete Rose being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame..?

In the matter of Pete Rose....?
It seems this questions comes up a hundred times a week. Same question/same answer. He cheated!! He broke the Cardinal sin of baseball. No gambling!! He compromised the integrity of the game. He belongs with the other cheaters of the game like Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Grimesly, etc. It's called a life time band of the game. No hall of fame, no nothing!!! He isn't even allowed in a major league ballpark without permission. What does that tell you?

He was a good, not great player who got the very most out of his abilities. You can rework any scenario you want. It happened the way it happened, end of story!!
Reply:I used to believe that Pete Rose deserved to be banned for life. He gambled on baseball, which hurt the integrity of the game. However, I've come to feel that there's one thing that made me change my mind. To be clear, I really believe that he didn't do anything that affected the game of baseball itself. I believe that he didn't throw games, and that he didn't use insider information (like who the team was about to aquire); that he got banned (rightfully) because he broke the rules. Fine. Except, like I said, for one thing: The way things stand now, Barry Bonds--who is quite possibly guilty of steroid abuse, and certainly, if only through the allegations against him, has damaged the integrity of baseball far more than Pete Rose ever did--will wind up in the Hall of Fame before Pete Rose. And that's just not fair. So unless we can go back in time, and rewrite the rules to say that anyone who hurts baseball can't get in, I think they should let Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame. Because, when it came down to it. He just screwed up. He didn't screw up the whole game.
Reply:Regardless of his gambling problem.....that does not effect his being inducted in the Hall of Fame. His outstanding record should be the reason his is in the Hall of Fame.
Reply:The Hall of Fame is strictly based on the game of baseball. By not letting the all time hits leader get in, and a guy who was a monster on what some say was the greatest team EVER in baseball, the big red machine, is making it The Hall of Character. The Hall of Fame should have absolutely nothing to do with his character. I could care less what he did. There are known racists (Ty Cobb for one) who are in the hall. This is just about power and the commissioner Bud Selig has a power trip just like most commissioners. Pete Rose needs to be let into the hall, you cant deny how good he was as a player, Hall of Fame caliber. Let him in!!!!
Reply:Simply put, every MLB clubhouse has Rules of Conduct prominently displayed. At the top of the list is "No betting on baseball." It doesn't say "No betting against your team," it says "No betting on baseball." There is no gray area there. You bet, you get caught, you're gone.

Rose has admitted he bet on baseball. It took him about 14 years to admit it, but he did admit it. I once questioned whether the allegations were true, but hearing it from the horse's mouth has removed any lingering doubt in my mind.

As a result of his behavior he is also on baseball's Ineligible List. You do not give someone the highest honor in their profession if they are banned from making a living in that profession because they broke clearly stated, widely understood rules. That makes no sense. Do you honor a doctor with a lifetime achievement award if he lost his license for malpractice? Of course not. Rose's situation is no different.

Look, Pete Rose WAS a great player, easily a Hall of Fame caliber player. There can be no denying that. But unless the powers that be remove Rose from the Ineligible List and reinstate him into the game, he should not be put in the Hall of Fame. If they do reinstate him, he should go as soon as possible afterwards, but not before.
Reply:Pete Rose knowingly broke the most scared rule of baseball. He cheated and should never be allowed back in the game in any way. The Hall Of Fame belongs to those who honored the game not those who cheated on the game. The same applies to Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and the rest who dishonored the game and themselves.
Reply:GAMBLING
Reply:Pete Rose is banned from baseball FOR LIFE!

That is the way it should be.

And he should not ever be allowed in the Hall Of Fame, not even as a paying customer!!!
Reply:he bet on baseball and he has admitted as much so he deserves to be banned and justice is served
Reply:I have not seen where he says that he threw games however I have seen where he bet on his team to win.

Yes he should be in the hall of fame for what he did as a player.
Reply:Simply, MLB has rules against gambling. If Pete gambled, that is why he is banned
Reply:Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame. What he did on the ball field should be the only thing taken into consideration for that award. There are plenty of others who who have disgraced the game and are still playing.
Reply:I would agree with Carole S. if I were certain Pete hadn't thrown games. I don't trust him. Never will. Don't want him in the Hall.
Reply:The prohibition against betting on baseball, or being associated with those betting on baseball (which has snared a few players over the years), is posted in EVERY CLUBHOUSE.

Pete Rose knew the rules, he just figured he'd get special treatment because of who he is. He thought himself bigger than the game. He isn't.

And Pete Rose DID bet against his team - by virtue of NOT placing bets on some of them. Tell me - did he manage games differently when he money on it as opposed to those where he didn't? THAT becomes an issue.

He knew the rules, he broke them, he lied, he attempted to damage the credibility of those who CAUGHT him. No way. Sorry Petey.
Reply:Yah Pete rose rocks he Should be because He rocks But He Cant Because Of The Gambiling
Reply:He may have cheated after he quit baseball, but while he played baseball he didnt cheat and you cant try to erase what the man did in baseball. His talent is undeniable and he is one of the greatest to live. Put an astrase* next to his name if you want. Just dont try to erase what he did for the game of baseball.
Reply:if he were to have handled the whole thing differently he would have a chance to get in the hall without a ticket but thats how that goes. the only way i see it happening now, sadly, is posthumously. sad, sad, sad.
Reply:The biggest sin in baseball is gambling.

Gambling almost ruined baseball way back in 1919 (look up the Black-Sox scandal) and since then baseball has worked hard to keep gambling out of the game.

Rose bet on baseball, and admitted betting on baseball.

He accepted a lifetime ban to avoid further humiliation.

Had he admitted it at first, and come clean, a lot of this could have been avoided. But he lied over and over about his involvement, hoping that people's memory would fade. When he finally admitted what the evidence already showed (that he bet on baseball) it was too late for forgiveness.

Rose. Is it a flower or a medicine?

Recently i came across an interview on TV regarding benifits of Rose. It was told that if you drink rose water syrup along with some petals it is good for constipation. I tried it and it worked wonders.

It is also told that rose if kept in the house gives happiness. If you keep rose under your pillow before sleep the bad dreams will vanish. If rose petal paste is taken daily it will cure intestinal problems and heart ailment will be reduced.

Can anybody exchange some of your experiences please?

Rose. Is it a flower or a medicine?
All flowers are having both.ANNAI has given different name for different flower and it's medicinal and mental power .Flowers are having absorbing qualities. So if keep the flowers on the forehead,if you have pain ,the flowers will absorb, for that matter you can keep any flower,.
Reply:In my native there are six diffrent varieites of rose

My aunt says washing our face with rosewater makes it soft and smooth
Reply:it is both. If you apply the paste of rose petals on your face daily %26amp; wash it after 30 minutes with plain water it will glow like anything %26amp; you will remain young after your youth.
Reply:Yes ... here comes the Indian 'aurvedya' which is being practised in the Indian subcontinent for centuries.

Thanks for the information/s provided here for the globe and specially for the Y/A community.

Sorry .. that I could not add any further than than you have provided here. One thing, growing 'rose' and taking care of the plants, I believe, is a bit tough job. May you provide us some handy information's if anybody wants to grow these in the earthen-pots often kept inside the house / flats ( you know the city life here in Calcutta, India) ? In another some 'postings' ... ? Thanks again.

Rose Bush! Trim and Bugs?

Can I Trim My Rose Bush Now Since It Is Spring?

I Have Only Trimmed The Rose Bush In The Fall. Now I See It Is Really Wide And Tall. How Do I Treat The Bugs/Insects On The Rose Bush? The Rose Bush Has Holes And I Am Thinking It Is Some Type Of Bug/Insect. I Have Only Had The Rose Bush For Two Years. Home Remedies Are Cheaper Any Ideas?

Rose Bush! Trim and Bugs?
if you trim your rose depends on what type of rose you have.also is it blooming yet if so do not prune until fall.if you dont see the bugs eating your planti suggest using seven dust it is a pretty generic pesticide.
Reply:First it depends on where you live but if you are in zones 7-8 then you should trim your rose bush all the way back in the early spring BEFORE it blooms and starts getting all the new foliage. This time of the year you can trim it just don't except new roses....it is better to wait.

Go to lowes they have a great natural bug spray that won't harm the enviornment or anything else that works great. It sounds like you have worms or aphids.

Then buy some marigolds and plant them in the general area of the bush or around them....not on top just around them. Marigolds are natural pest repellents and repel a great deal many of bugs/instects. They won't repel aphids or mostiques though.

And for a bonus the blooms are high in vitamin c and are perfectly edible!
Reply:There are tons of stuff on the market, but as far as home remedies. Start with putting banana peels under your rose bush, bugs don't like the chemicals released by the browning banana peels. Look up a TV show called" Gardening By the Yard....with Paul James".....it shows on HGTV on Saturday and Sunday mornings, he has got great advice for home-made spray remedies. Good Luck!
Reply:use this stuff, it's great for everything! follow the link to check it out! u can find it at walmart or lowes! i use it and it works great!

Who's your rose and wat's their thorn?

hello, i'm sure some of you have heard the awesome song "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison. well i love that song....and i've been thinking..who do i love and if they're a rose...what's their thorn? well...my rose is my best friend "squeeky", her thorn is taking stuff to seriously...so who's your rose? and what do you think their thorn is? i'm just wondering. (and if you haven't heard the song i suggest you listen to it)...and i know this is a dumb question...but...i'd just like to say... whoever your rose is...it shouldn't matter if they have a thorn and they may prick you once in awhile..but they are to beautiful to miss or hate. so...watever their thorn/flaw...they're a rose...who wouldnt' want a beatuiful rose in their life?

thanks for answering ahead of time.

Who's your rose and wat's their thorn?
I gave you a star because this is a wonderful question.

Not only does it get us all thinking, but it makes us realize that no one is perfect and that's ok because we love them in spite of their thorn.

My rose is my hubby.

He is the best thing (right up there with my children) that has ever happened to me.

But yes, of course he has a thorn.

I would love for him to be more expressive of his love.

I know he loves me by the little things he does or says, but sometimes us (women) just need to "hear" it more.

I would love to "hear" it more, not just feel it.

Although the feeling it is the most important part.

That's why I'm not complaining, just that little thorn that I would love to pick off of my rose ;)
Reply:probably my husband %26amp; my 7 year old son with adhd.

-the hubby because he may be grumpy %26amp; had anger issues (his thorn) in the past which he still carries but he loves me %26amp; our kids %26amp; will do anything to be sure we are fed, sheltered %26amp; taken care of properly.(his rose)

-my son coz his behavioural problems(his thorn) had caused us to be involved in the child safety department here in queensland aus.but he can also be a sensitive %26amp; sweet young boy %26amp; he's my 1st born son(his rose)
Reply:My ex is my rose and her thorn is probably she talks on and on about nothing. it kinda gets on your nerves after a while. and im likein the 360's answer
Reply:my rose is my grandfather... and his thorn that puncture my heart is the fact that he is in a different part of the world an di miss him to death...
Reply:Hi sweet,

This is a very good question and is worth the star.

My rose is myself, my thorns are : my shyness, my honesty and my willingness to help others.
Reply:My only rose is my beautiful mom and her beautiful heart. And she is the only rose that doesn't have any thorns. =)
Reply:There's roses/thorns, roads/bumps, nature/hay fever...etc.

Who needs a song? The thorns, bumps, hayfever are what makes you a better person. You either succumb to life's glitches or you gain wisdom and become a better person. Are you learning anything or just sailing by without improvement?

A rose if called by any other name, would just be a rose.
Reply:wow, I think you've answered your question perfectly. my rose is my ex-boyfriend, and I've been pricked a few times by his thorn. He's on the edge of not being part of my life, but I don't know how to get him back. I miss my love, I miss my friend. Thank you so much for this analogy of roses and thorns, it brings light to my situation.
Reply:I am my own rose. The thorns on my stem are my self doubt, lack of self esteem, self destructive ways, vainty, and jealousy.

Ebony Rose Ivory Rose or Ivona Rose?

You see I am pregnant and my boyfriend is white and I am black. We are still trying to come up with a name. Choose out of these please.

Ebony Rose,

Ivory Rose,

Ivona,

Ivona Rose,

Preston Rose,

Jadelyn,

Danity,

Lasha(La shay)

Ebony Rose Ivory Rose or Ivona Rose?
Oh, honey, don't do that to your child. There will be enough people quick to be mean to her without you naming her Ebony or Ivory. Ivona is pretty, but I like Jadelyn best.

Rose is also an excellent middle name.
Reply:Of them all, Ivona (spelled IvAna) Rose is the best, by far.

Ebony/Ivory is cliched, and the rest are way trendy and ugly.
Reply:Ivory Rose is very pretty and kinda classy; I think. I'm sorry but I don't care for any of the second set of names. Congats on the pregnancy, I sincerely hope that you are both happy about it!
Reply:They're all beautiful, hon.

Ebony Rose is my favorite though.

Not that it matters but I am not black and I wanted to name my baby if I had a daughter, Ebony Jade, or Ebony Raven, but I had a boy and named him Gabriel, now if we have a girl she will be names Jordyn Mackenzie-Lynn.
Reply:I like Preston Rose.
Reply:Preston is more a boy name.. From the examples that you gave, I like Ivona Rose the best!! Good luck to you
Reply:Ebony or Ivory, those are great names!!! and Rose sounds so nice with these names.

The withered rose?

On the way to school, this little boy,in the corner of his

little eye, caught a glimpse of a withered rose, looking at the rose made him sad.He was determined to take care of that withered rose and bring it back to its beauty, that it once had. So,now everyday before and after school, the little boy would, water the rose and trim it with his school scissors. As each day would come and go,that withered rose started to grow. When it was done growing,he

was in awe with its beauty. Not wanting to ruin it,he dug up the rose, roots and all and brought it home,to his mother. His mother asked him,"Where did you get such a beautiful rose." ? So,he told her the whole story and when he finished, there were tears in his mothers eyes. She said,"You are growing up so fast,Thank you for the rose,it was the best gift I have ever gotten.

I might need to make some changes..

The withered rose?
The first part was ok. But why did the little boy dig that cute rose? He could have brought his mother to that rose.
